Top it off! L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Top Coats

Top coat title Nail art is still very much on trend this season and L’Oreal Paris is kicking it up a notch with their new products for July.

Launching this month, the Colour Riche Nail Top Coats will spice up any plain mani.  Available in six different textures, the top coats are meant to be layered on top of any colour polish for a fun, unique look.

I received three of them to try out, the Gold top coat, Confetti top coat, and Matte top coat.   I layered them over the same colour, L’Oreal Paris’ Colour Riche nail polish in Breaking Curfew, which is a vampy deep purple that looks like black at first glance.

The Matte Top Coat.

My favourites from the three I tried were definitely the Gold one and the Confetti.  The gold one, when layered over a black or dark nail polish, just glams up the look and is very eye catching.  I wore this colour to a pool party paired with a black and gold bikini and I had some comments saying that my nails matched my bathing suit (I obviously did that on purpose:)). The confetti one is also unique but definitely takes more time to apply, as the confetti is a little sparse at first swipe.  The confetti top coat lasted around three or four days before it started to chip, whereas the gold one lasted around two to three.  Both of these were like removing glitter polish, it took a while.  I also want to mention that I applied a fast-drying high-shine topcoat (Poshe) on top of both of these as I found I wanted something extra to pump up the shine.  This could have affected the wear on these as well.

As for the matte one, I already have the OPI Matte Top Coat, which creates the same effect to any polish.  Like the OPI version, the L’Oreal one wasn’t that long wearing before my polish started to chip, I literally had it on for a day before it chipped off; so disappointing.

Overall, at C$6.99 a pop these are a fun and affordable way to glam up a manicure.  the other top coats are The True Diamond (diamond), The Holographic (prismat), and the Shift Me (shade shifter) top coats.

I also want to note that the products shown in my photos are the French versions, the Canadian ones will be in larger bottles, as so I’m told.

Are you excited to try the new L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Top Coats?

Please note I was given these products from PR. All opinions are my own.

Kiss the girl! Sephora Disney Ariel Mermaid’s Song lipgloss set + perfume

lipgloss title

I think most little girls want to be a Disney princess when they grow up.  My favourite princess of all was Belle from The Beauty and the Beast (I actually went through a phase where I watched that movie everyday when I was little), but Ariel from The Little Mermaid was a close second.

On the heels of their last Disney princess collection featuring Jasmin, Sephora is releasing their last collection in the series featuring Ariel (the first of the saga was Cinderella).  This collection launches this month in Sephora stores and online and features a myriad of products, including a large eyeshadow palette, an eyeshadow quad, a nail polish set, a lipgloss set, two perfumes (one rollerball and one in a bottle), and a compact mirror.  Each Disney collection is similar in product offerings, however, the colours represent each respective princess.

I received the Mermaid’s Song lipgloss set (C$46), as well as the eau de parfum spray (50 ml, C$70) to review prior to the collection launching.

L to R: Mermaid, Redhead, Sea Witch, Dream Girl

The Mermaid’s Song lipgloss set is comprised of four colours inspired by everyone’s favourite redheaded Disney princess.  The colours are Dream Girl (perky pink), Sea Witch (bold berry), Redhead (rich red), and Mermaid (courageous coral).

These glosses present a sheer colour and best of all, aren’t sticky. My favourite shades from the collection are Sea Witch (which reminds me a lot of Lady Tremaine from the Cinderella by Sephora lipstick set) and Dream Girl.

I have to say that these aren’t my favourite glosses because the colour goes on kind of splotchy and I find that you really have to work with these to even them out.  I really liked all the shades, but some were harder to work with than others (like Sea Witch, which is gorgeous, but took a while for it to look even).

Overall, these are kind of expensive for the quality of the glosses (I know it’s $11.50 a gloss, but you have to buy the set, you can’t buy them individually).  They would look really nice layered over a lipstick around the same shade.  By themselves they are really pretty but I have tried better glosses that have given a more even layer of colour.  If you are a collector of the Sephora Disney Reigning Beauties collection, or even a Little Mermaid fan, then I would recommend these.  These would also be a great gift for a pre-teen or teenager.

perfume bottle

If you ever wondered what Ariel would smell like, Sephora has bottled up the scent.  Kiss The Girl Eau de Parfum is “inspired by the magical moment of true love’s first kiss.”  The scent opens with a burst of bergamot, wet cucumber, and ozonic accord.  It also has a splash of water notes, wild lilac and starfruit, fused together with warm sandalwood and “sensual velvet sensations” of ambergris.

At first smell, this perfume is very aquatic; to me, it smells like something else, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.  Personally, it’s not my favourite scent, and not a perfume that I would have bought (I received this from PR); I just wish it were a bit more sweeter and not as musky.  I also think the price tag is a little high for a Sephora-brand perfume (C$70/$58 USD) and wish it came in a prettier bottle.  I know that the Jasmine and Cinderella perfumes came in similar bottles, but I just find them so plain.  The perfume is also available in a rollerball (C$23/ $19 USD).

perfume lid

Overall, it you aren’t a huge Ariel or Disney fan, I would skip these items.  I haven’t tried the eyeshadow palettes or nail polishes from any of the collections (this one and the previous two), so I can’t comment on the quality of those, although the colours do look really pretty in the Ariel line.  I like the shades of the glosses but wish they were easier to work with (not to mention, $43 for four glosses is very steep).  If you are a Disney collector, Little Mermaid fan, or have collected items from the previous two Disney Reigning Beauties lines, then I would pick these up, but if you are on the fence about them, I would save your money.

Are you excited for the Ariel line from the Disney Reigning Beauties collection?  Which items are you planning on picking up?

Please note I was sent these products from PR. All opinions are my honest own.

Polished & perfect: Interview-ready beauty tips

Title

This week’s FASHION magazine Beauty Panel challenge was how to look polished and put together during a job interview.

I personally hate job interviews (seriously, who doesn’t?), and the jobs I have gotten tend to be from the interviews that were the most unconventional.  With that being said, those jobs (including the one I’m in now) have been my faves.

Now if you are in an office environment that stumps creativity, looking your best, and more importantly, looking like you, is the way to go.  I can have fun with my hair and makeup in the job I’m in now (publishing), but you better believe I didn’t do hot pink lips and dark eyeshadow at my job interview.

looking down

My tip for looking professional?  Keep it au naturale.  I chose to curl my hair using a clip-less curling iron because it gives me nice curls without that evil clip line and frizz.  Throughout the day, those tight curls will fall a bit and leave you with gorgeous natural-looking waves that will make you stand out from the competition.

As for makeup, Urban Decay’s Naked palette (the O-G) was the only way to go.  I chose a lighter foundation (Dior Diorskin Nude BB Cream), so my skin could really shine through, with a natural eye look (Sin on the lids, Buck in the crease, and Virgin as the highlight).  To wrap up the eye look, I did a cat-eye liner and some mascara.  I also put Buck along my lower lash line to create some depth.  I did a bit of contouring with Smashbox’s matte brozner and then popped NARS Orgasm on the cheeks for a bit of a glow.  For the lips I went with a pink lipstick (YSL Rouge Volupte in #19) that was enough to match my skin tone and make the look fresh.
