Nail art made easy: L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail Lingerie

title

When it comes to the trend du jour, nail art is still hip and happening.  Now, if you are like me and pin away nail designs, but can’t seem to imitate the glorious works of art of other bloggers, you may need a little help.

Fear not because a number of cosmetic companies are coming out with their own version of those popular sticker nail polishes that making nail art oh so easy.

The latest one of the bunch is by L’Oreal Paris, who released their Colour Riche Nail Lingerie last month.  Available in a number of different patterns, these are meant to be applied over top of any colour polish you choose.  They require no dry time and are billed to last 10 days.

I tried out Elite Chic, which adds a gradient gold sparkle effect to any mani.  I have been loving pinky-nude nails with gold so I layered this over Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in Shell We Dance.   Like the Sally Hansen nail stickers, you find the one that best fits your nail (it’s recommended to go a little larger than your nail so it can fit perfectly on the edges) and then fold over the excess and file away at the tip.

I didn’t end up keeping these on for 10 days (maybe five), because I just didn’t like them as much as I thought I would.  I found that at the tips of my nails looked bumpy because they just didn’t lay flat, so it looked like I was wearing a sticker.  Also, I found that part of the sticker would come off, so I would have to cut that part, luckily it wasn’t noticeable because I have the colour on underneath.

Compared to other brands out there (Essie, Sally Hansen, Maybelline – although I haven’t tried the Maybelline ones), I didn’t really enjoy these as much.  I find I would be picking away at them throughout the day until eventually I just peeled a nail off, and then I had to peel all them off.

I loved the concept of these but I have to say that they didn’t live up to the hype in my opinion.  The Colour Riche Press-On Nails on the other hand (also a new product from L’Oreal Paris), LOVE those.

Nail art and summer nail polish colours were also the FASHION magazine Beauty Panel challenge for last week, where I did this same nail look.

Have you tried the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail Lingerie?  What were your thoughts?

Please note, I was provided this product from PR.  All opinions are my own.

The bee’s knees.. Marc Jacobs Honey

MJ Honey Hi Res

Ooooh honey!

I am such a sucker for cute perfume bottles, that I was buzzing with excitement when I laid my eyes on Marc Jacobs new fragrance Honey.

Honey (which is the sister to last year’s Dot) is a sunny enticing floral with top notes of pear, fruity punch, and juicy mandarin.  Other notes include orange blossom, peach nectar, honeysuckle, honey, golden vanilla, and smooth woods.

I received a lab sample of this bad boy and although it’s a fall release, I find it’s more of a spring scent.  I really smell the citrus in it and because of that, it’s not really a scent that I would sport during the fall (I like muskier ones).  Luckily, it was just released, so you can still rock it for the rest of summer

Speaking of summer, the bottle is so season appropriate.  The bottle is a glass bubble with yellow and black striped butterflies (not bees – kinda odd considering the name), that is so eye-catching.  I’m so shallow that I would probably buy this for the bottle alone, regardless of what it smells like (although I actually do like the scent).   A yellow with white polka dot Yoshi egg acts as the topper.

The eau de parfum is available in either 50ml (C$80) or 100ml (C$105) and is available at Hudson’s Bay, Sears, Holt Renfrew, Ogilvy, Murale, Shopper’s Drug Mart, London Drugs, John Coutu, and Sephora.  It also comes in a radiant body lotion.

Marc Jacobs really knows how to do perfumes (Lola, anyone?), so next time you are in your favourite beauty locale, take a sniff!

Now the fun part! To celebrate this sweet new release, Marc Jacobs Fragrances has started a social media campaign called #MJHONEYSPOTS, where the company is encouraging anyone and everyone to snap a pic of either themselves or their friends in their favourite spots/venues/eateries and then share the photo on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MJHONEYSPOTS.   From that, Marc Jacobs Fragrances is making a map of the #MJHONEYSPOTS around the world.

If you are one of those lucky little bees that live in one of Canada’s more metropolitan centres (not Winnipeg, boo!), look out for special Marc Jacobs Honey ice cream trucks making pit stops in Toronto (and maybe more! Who knows where they will be flying around to!)

The magic trick: It Cosmetics Tightline mascara primer

Tightline title

So, you know when you try to tightline (the method of applying an eyeliner to the piece of skin between your upper lashes and eyes), and you end up squinting and messing up your entire eye look?  Okay, I’m seriously not the only one.  As much as I would love to tightline to really darken up the eyelash area, my eyes end up hating me in return (plus the face I make when I do it is soo unattractive).

Being the innovative company that they are, It Cosmetics came out with a product to help solve this problem.  Perfectly named, Tightline Full Lash Length Black Primer coats and primes eyes, and best of all, the ultra-skinny brush allows you to get right to the root of the lashes and even that dreaded tightline spot.

The seriously skinny wand allows you to coat every lash from root to tip.  According to It Cosmetics, most mascaras and primers only let you coat about two-thirds of each lash, leaving the base exposed.  By coating the entire lash, your lashes look longer, darker, and almost creates the illusion of wearing a liner.

Although this product is a primer, you can also use it as just your mascara; it leaves your lashes with a whispy effect.  Tightline, paired with your fave mascara (I used It Cosmetic’s Hello Lashes in the photo just to “keep it in the family”), makes your lashes look longer, darker, and just plain ol’ sexier.

I highly recommend this product, not only because I love primers and this one works, but because this is unlike anything I have ever seen or heard of.  The only qualm I can think of when it comes to Tightline, is that I wish the wand was on the shorter end of the tube.   The wand is actually attached to the longer end, which gets very confusing.  I feel like if the brush got dipped into the longer end (like how it is for most mascaras) then the product would last you a lot longer.

Regardless, you need this product in life. I highly recommend it.

Tightline retails for C$24 on The Shopping Channel (currently sold out – wahh!) and $29 USD for a duo pack on QVC.

Are you going to check out Tightline?  Tried it?  What were your thoughts?

Please note, I was sent this product for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.
