Sweet & smooth: Nair Candy Apple Sugar Wax

Nair title

Although it may not quite feel like summer just yet, the weather is slowly getting warmer, bringing us to….. shorts season!  Hemlines are getting shorter, the heels higher, the skin tanner, and well, your legs have to keep up.

I don’t know if you are like me, but during the winter months, I usually just let my leg hair grow, I mean who is really going to see those hairy beasts (okay, I take that back, I teach fitness classes, so a lot of people.. whoops!).  As much as I love shaving, it can be a pain, especially in the summer months when the hair seems to grow much faster.

Enter the Nair Sugar Wax.  I have tried multiple Nair products in the past, including their wax strips and the Shower Power hair removal cream, but I’ve never tried an at-home wax set.  This beauty is scented with irresistible candy apple, so it makes the whole experience sugary sweet!

From France (ooh la la!), the sugar wax features a lavish soft and creamy texture, luxurious scent, and long-lasting results up to four weeks.  Best part, the 100 per cent rinsable formula (no sticky legs or hands!) has been proven to be effective on hair as short as two millimetres.

Package

Since my legs looked like they were due for a wax, I tried it out on Saturday and I have to say, I was impressed!  The kit comes with a 300 gram pot of the wax, which you heat up in your microwave for 30 seconds.  It also includes 15 wax strips which are reusable, as well as a wooden spatula. In reading the press materials, apparently the non-woven strips rinse in water and are reusable, I threw mine out (whoops!) but next time around I’ll rinse them and see how well they hold up.

Wax

Overall I’m really impressed with this product.  If you go for a leg wax at a salon it will cost you a pretty penny.  This set is only C$14.99 and it gives you enough wax to last you the whole summer.  You can use this for your legs, body, and bikini area.  I’m interested in trying it on my face as well.

I highly recommend this, I found it worked way better than their wax strips which can be quite irritating if you unpeel them before they are warm enough.  Pick up this set and have a girl’s night in with your besties! Wax, mani, pedi, and mask (plus a glass of wine… or two…;) ) and you’re all set!

Have you tried waxing or hair removal products from NAIR?  What were your thoughts?

Big on brights: how to incorporate colour into your look for summer

Title Colour is a huge trend in fashion this season.  Whether it’s pretty pastels or intense shades, colour is making a comeback (did it really ever leave?).  Since fashion and beauty go hand in hand, a pop of colour to any look will make you on-trend for spring, even if you may be scared to wear something too eye-catching.

When it comes to cosmetics, bright colours can play a fine line between tasteful and too much.  Blues and yellows are usually my go-tos when it comes to having fun with eyeshadow, but if done wrong, you can look more hot mess than just plain hot to trot.

My mom recently picked up Clinique’s spring gift with purchase at Sears Canada, where it came with a super trendy eyeshadow duo.  As usual, you got to choose your colours, and the one she got had a deep taupe brown with an aqua blue.  Now I feel like aqua blue is one of those colours that look gorgeous in the tin but once you actually buy it, you get a sense of confusion on how to wear it.  Rather than sweeping it over the lids, I love adding the shade to my lower lash line, which puts an edge to any look.

Steps

1. Lay down an eyeshadow primer (I used MAC Paint Pot in Nubile), then with a shimmery white, apply this along your brow bone.  I used MAC Phloof! eyeshadow.

2. With a fluffy crease brush and a light brown, apply this right under your brow highlight, but slightly above your crease, acting as a transition colour. I used MAC Soba.

3. With a deep purple-brown (I used the brown (I believe it’s called Blushed) from the Clinique GWP duo) and a crease brush, apply this in your crease, blending it out.

4. Taking a lighter neutral shade, apply this on your lids.  I used MAC Grain.

5. Line your upper lash line with a liquid liner, winging it out, then apply some coats of mascara.

6. With a blue eyeliner (I used Rimmel London Special Eyes in Azure Shimmer), line your lower lash line.  The blue liner is going to act as a base for the eyeshadow we are going to apply next.

7. Taking a blue eyeshadow (the one I used from the Clinique duo is called Morning Java) and an angled pencil brush, go over the blue liner to really make the colour pop.  After, apply a few coats of mascara to your lower lashes.

Final 2

And that’s it!  You can do this with any bright colour shadow and totally make it wearable.  I love the juxtaposition of the neutral eye and the bright colour.  By doing this, you aren’t making the shadow too over the top. Plus, I find the whole look to be very eye-catching ;).

How do you wear coloured shadow?

Spring tips! Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Pastels on Point collection

Sally Hansen title

With the weather (slowly) getting warmer, my nail polish colour cravings have gone from drab, wintery colours to fun, sleek pastels.

Being a huge fan of Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure (CSM) line, I was excited to get my hands on their spring collection, Pastels on Point.  With dance-inspired names, the collection features pastel shades, as well as iridescent hues that can worn alone or over top of another colour to create a holographic appearance.

There are six shades in the collection which launched in April 2014.  I got my little hands on four of the shades, three of the pastels and one of the iridescent ones.

Curtan Call

Cur-tan Call is a peachy-nude shade that is my favourite from all the colours I received.  I have been huge into nudes and peaches/salmons so when I laid my eyes on this colour, I fell in love.  The texture is a cream and quite sheer, so I used three coats to make this opaque (and even then it’s still a little sheer).  If there is one colour to pick out from this collection, I would go with this one.

Don't be leotardy

Don’t be Leo-Tardy is a creme mauve pink.  I feel like this shade is highly dupable and a staple in any spring collection (as well as anyone’s nail polish collection in general).

Pique side

Pique Side is a muted mint green, that, at first glance, looks like a creme, but if you look real close, there is a bit of shimmer in there.  With that being said, once painted on you don’t notice any shine. This shade is actually very similar to Sally Hansen’s CSM Mojito shade from the Tracy Reese Spring 2014 Designer collection that launches next month.  They are almost spot on.

Tutu Pretty

Tutu Pretty overtop of Don’t be a Leo-Tardy

Tutu Pretty is one of the three shimmery shades in the collection. You can choose to wear these alone or over another colour in the collection to add some holographic shimmer to the look.  If you sport these worn alone, they are quite sheer, I used three coats and it still wasn’t opaque.  Although I do prefer these over another shade, they are a nice hint of colour.

I layered Tutu Pretty overtop of Don’t be a Leo-Tardy and was actually quite surprised on how much I liked this combo.  Tutu Pretty transformed the pale pink into a gorgeous rose gold shade, making it on trend for summer.

There are also two more iridescent shades in this collection, Take the Leap, a lilac shimmer, and Tulle Kit, a blue shimmer.  Overall, I do like this collection, however, I feel like the colours aren’t really anything that I haven’t seen before from other collections or brands.  It’s a typical spring collection with the pastel shades, but I do like how the shimmer holographic colours really spice up the overall look of the base colour.

Have you tried any shades from Sally Hansen CSM Pastels on Point collection?
