Smells like spring! The sweetest scents for spring

Title

The grass is turning greener, the birds are chirping and the weather is (finally!) getting warmer.  If you are like me, you like to switch up your fragrances for the seasons.  Some perfumes I only wear in the winter and others are reserved strictly for the hotter weather.

I don’t typically do a lot of fragrance posts as it’s not like you can smell these scents through your computer screen, but if you are looking for something sweet, light, and summery, here is my list of my favourite scents for this season (make sure you take a sniff next time you’re at Sephora!).

Perfumes

Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb

A staple in anyone’s collection, this cult favourite is made up of Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, Patchouli.

When I first sniffed Flowerbomb years ago, it didn’t appeal to me, but since everyone and their mom raves about it, I gave it another go during the Sephora VIB sale recently and fell in love.  It had to be mine.  I have the little 20 ml bottle of this scent, but I know I’ll be picking up a full-size when I run out.

Viva La Juicy

Viva La Juicy should be a staple in everyone’s collection.  I have been wearing this for a couple of years now, and although it’s more of a summery scent, I sport this year round.  I picked my bottle at the Juicy outlet in Vegas, so whenever I sniff it I always get that Vegas feeling (take me backkkkkkkk).  This one may be the first perfume I ever use up since I love it so much.

This sweet scent has notes of Wild Berries, Mandarins, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Jasmine, Amber, Caramel, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Praline.

Chloe Eau de Parfum

This sweet scent is for all ages.  With its notes of pink peony, lychee, honey, rose, and more, it suits any woman.  I brought a mini of this bottle with me to Europe, so whenever I give it a sniff I get flashbacks of London nights and Parisian days.

Notes include Pink Peony, Freesia, Lychee, Magnolia Flower, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Honey.

Yves Rocher Collection Été

Launching in June 2014 as part of their 2014 Mediterranean Sea collection, this eau de toilette is a perfect everyday scent.  Since it’s full of citrus, I love spraying this all over after the shower on a lazy day or after the gym.  The scent is very fresh and light so it’s hard to go overboard with it.

Notes include bergamot, lemon, and mandarin with citrus flowers.  You can purchase it online at yvesrocher.ca for C$29.  The scent also comes in a shower gel (C$3.95), which contains over 98 per cent natural ingredients, making it perfect for layering!

Philosophy body wash

Philosophy Hooray for Sorbet trio

For those who like to start in the shower with their scents, keep an eye out for Philosophy’s Hooray for Sorbet trio (C$31) of their fabulous shower gel, bubble bath, and shampoo products.  The set (which is housed in an uber-cute faux ice cream box), contains three flavours – Mango Sorbet, Green Apple Sorbet, and Pink Melon Sorbet. The moisturizing, multitasking formula provides a rich, foaming lather to gently cleanse and condition, leaving skin and hair feeling soft and smelling sweet, without the calories.

I’ve been loving all these scents so much that it’s hard to choose just one to wear every morning.

Nailing it! Rimmel London Salon Pro polish with Lycra

Rimmel title

In addition to the ease of gel polishes, I love the finish they leave me with.  I love doing at-home gel manis, but since I have so many polishes (not to mention polish samples on the daily), I don’t typically leave one colour on my nails for very long.  There’s also the fact that gel polish is so difficult to remove.

Enter Rimmel London’s new line of nail polishes.  Rimmel introduced their new Lycra nail polish collection early this year, titled Salon Pro with Lycra.  Not only are the colours fab (six of which were created by British supermodel Kate Moss), but they leave you with professional-looking long-lasting glossy, salon-style nails that are billed to leave you chip free for 10 days.  You basically get a gel-like polish but without the curing (and the annoying removal process).

Brush

This was my first foray into Rimmel polishes so I have nothing else to compare them to.  I do have to say that I was impressed by the quality of these lacquers.  The bottles are nice and small and feature the same kind of wide brush that I love in the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure varnishes.  With a wider brush, you get a better coverage of the colour, plus I find them just easier to work with.

I was sent three colours, Soul Session (a pink taupe), New Romantic (a baby pink), and Punk Rock (a purple taupe), all three of which are staple colours perfect for any season.

New Romantic Punk rock Soul Session

Overall, I really like these polishes and although I did have some chips in my colour prior to the billed 10-day guarantee, I do feel that these are longer lasting than other polishes out there that may be a bit more pricey (cough Essie cough).  These also really do leave you with a nice gel-like shine and go on quite opaque after two coats.

Rimmel Salon Pro with Lycra polishes retail for C$5.95 at drugstores and are worth every penny.  There are a few more fab colours in the range, and if I didn’t already have so many nail polishes already, I would be picking up the entire line (the blue one – Brit Pop – is to. die for.)

Have you tried Rimmel’s Salon Pro with Lycra polishes?  What were your thoughts?

Please note, I was sent this product from PR. All opinions are my own.

Let’s get naked!

Title

Okay head out of the gutter people!  Today’s post is inspired by Herbal Essences new Naked collection of products, which gives you soft, shiny hair free of heavy residues, parabens, and dyes.  I did receive the Volume Collection from the line, consisting of a shampoo, conditioner, volumizing mousse, and a dry shampoo.

The Herbal Essences Naked Volume Collection is infused with an intoxicating blend of citrus and fresh mint. The zesty grapefruit, lemon and orange paired with crisp mint will leave you energized and refreshed in and out of the shower.

Herbal essences

This stuff seriously smells fab (best smelling drugstore dry shampoo I’ve sniffed!).  The Cleansing Conditioner is also a star product, as it really leaves your hair smooth and shiny (and smelling great!).

Anyways, in honour of this fab new line from one of my favourite affordable hair brands, I came up with a nude look to match your new naked hair!

Steps 1. Fill in your brows, then with a shimmery white cream eyeshadow, apply this along your brow bone. I used CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Ice Flame.

2. With a rose gold cream eyeshadow, apply this on your lids.  We are using this as a base for the shadow.  I used CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in 330 Ginger Flame.

3. With a light brown colour, apply this right underneath your brow highlight using a fluffy eyeshadow brush.  The colours I used in this look are all from the CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadow in 265 Sheerly Nudes.

4. With the darkest colour in the quad, apply this in your crease using a MAC 217 (or any crease brush).

5. With the rose gold colour from the quad, apply this on your lids.

6. Line your upper lash line, winging it out.  I used CoverGirl Bombshell liner in Black and then went over it with CoverGirl Ink It! liner in black.  After, curl your lashes and apply a few coats of mascara.  I used CoverGirl Flamed Up mascara and then popped on some falsies for a wispy look.

7. With that dark colour and a pencil brush, line your lower lash line.  Then, line your waterline with a nude liner (I used Rimmel London ScandalEyes Kohl in Nude).  After, apply some mascara to your bottom lashes.

8. Apply your foundation and concealer.  I used CoverGirl Stay Fabulous foundation and CoverGirl Tru Blend Concealer.  I set everything with CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder.   After, contour your cheeks and temples with a matte bronzer. I used CoverGirl Clean bronzer in Spices. Finally, apply a nude blush, I used CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Nude Rose.  For some highlight, I used CoverGirl’s The Luminizer highlight.

Final1 Final2

And that’s the final look!  On my lips I used CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lip Colour in the shades Siren and Nude.  For the hair, I used Herbal Essences Naked Volume shampoo and conditioner, with the volumizing mousse at the roots.  For some added oomph after I curled it, I sprayed the dry shampoo in my locks.

Are you excited to try Herbal Essences new Naked collection?
