So major! Benefit Cosmetics Majorette Booster Blush

Benefit title

I just can’t even with Benefit’s new booster blush.

Being released in September, Majorette is something new from one of my favourite brands, Benefit Cosmetics.  Billed as a “booster blush”, this product is a cream-to-powder formula that instantly cheers cheeks up. You can apply the product with your finger or a brush directly onto cheeks for a natural flush, or you can layer it under one of their famed Box O’Powders for extra pep and staying power.

I basically squealed with excitement as soon as I opened this bad boy because the packaging is so freaking cute (in true Benefit form).  Open up the round compact to discover the pinky-peach shade that has a sun embossed into the product.  Oh, and let’s not forget the scent.  The stuff smells like peach and pomegranate. I die.

Benefit does say you can apply this with your fingers, but I’ve been using the same brush I apply my cream blushes with — a Sephora angled blush brush that lets me just dab the bristles onto the product and then softly apply this on my cheeks.  I’ve been super into corals lately, so this stuff could not have come at a better time.  Basically, I’ve been wearing this everyday since I got it.  All my other blushes have been jealous.

Blush Final

Check out your local Sephora to swatch this yourself.  It’s retailing for C$36, but be warned, as soon as you see it with your own eyes, you may be finding yourself instantly gravitating towards the checkouts… product in hand of course.

Are you excited for Benefit’s Majorette Booster Blush?

That time I met Katy Perry… The Prismatic World Tour Hits Winnipeg

Prismatic title

This past Tuesday was one of the most puuuurfect nights ever.

I had the opportunity to attend Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour when it made a stop here at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.  Since I’m part of the P&G Beauty United program and Katy Perry is a CoverGirl spokeswoman, I was gifted the tickets, plus four pairs to give away.  But then it got better my friends.  I found out from my friends at P&G that I would be getting meet and greet passes for me, my guest, and all my winners.  To say I was excited was an understatement.

Although I’m not a die-hard Katy Perry fan, I would say I am a pretty big lover of her music.  I had her Prism album streaming all day, everyday at work when it first came out, plus I love her girl-next-door attitude.  She just seems so down to earth, plus her fun music videos make her seem like such a cool chick.

When she was announced as a new spokesperson for CoverGirl about a year ago I was so excited because I thought that her fun attitude and persona could really bring some youthfulness to the brand.  Then, they released the InstaGlam line, and I knew they hit gold with her.

So this brings me to Tuesday, when my guest Rose and I hit the MTS Centre early to get our meet and greet passes from Katy’s tour manager, who told us that the 10 passes I got were the only meet and greets happening in Winnipeg. Not gonna lie, we felt pretty damn special. And, to make it even more special, there were two moms who brought their little girls, who were HUGE Katy Perry fans.  I think the majority of us were most excited to see how the little girls were going to react when they found out they were going to meet their idol.

We headed downstairs to the Prismatic Lounge around 8 p.m. during the opening acts.  Before though, we made sure to stop by the CoverGirl booth, where Katy’s manager was so kind to hold the line so we could all get our photos taken (#VIP y’all), he also gifted us with some new CoverGirl swag (two of the Colorlicious glosses – which I was so excited to try – and one of their new XL Nail Gels).  We hung out in the futuristic lounge (complete with glowing chairs) for about 20 to 25 minutes taking pictures, chatting, and just getting excited to meet Katy Perry.  Her manager got the five minute warning and we all lined up waiting for her arrival as she came through the side, complete with like a 10-person entourage (which included her mom).  I was first to get my photo taken and the first thing she said to me was a comment on my cat dress from H&M (when I found out I was going, I already had my outfit all planned out).  She shook everyone’s hand, gave us a hug, then took a photo.  I commented on her hair and she said it was a weave.  It was a special moment indeed.  In total, the whole “meet and greet” part probably lasted about three minutes as she had to take the stage right away.

After, we headed back upstairs and took our seats, which were right beside the stage, waiting for Katy to bust out Roar, the first song during the concert.

I’m not going to do a full review of the show, but she puts on a good one.  She sang all her hits, plus a lot of tunes from the Prism album.  I was battling a sore throat, so although I wanted to bust it out for every song, I had to hold back. The Prismatic Show, on the other hand, well, it was quite the spectacle. The stage was shaped in a diamond going out into the audience, so she could really get out there and interact with her fans.  CoverGirl had branded “Prism-view” glasses, where, when you put them on, transformed the show into an optically amazing experience.

Overall, it was an amazing show, plus the fact that we got to meet her made it a night that I – as well as the nine others who were there – will never forget.  A HUGE thanks goes out to P&G, CoverGirl, Jenn, Dave, and Katy Perry’s people for making this happen – and for making two little girls’ dream come true.

Enjoy the photos!

Fast-paced nails: NYC In a New York Minute Quick Dry nail polishes

NYC title

If there is one thing I have learned being a beauty blogger is that just because a product is a lot of money, doesn’t mean that it’s going to be amazing.  I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a beauty snob.  Nothing gets my heart beating faster than setting foot into Sephora. However, working with a ton of different brands has changed my perception.  Just because a product is less than $15 doesn’t mean that it’s going to be bad.  I can think of a handful of products that are more amazing than department store or prestige-brand cosmetics.

I have quite the nail polish collection. So much that I’m finding that I give away most of my polishes because I just get so many of them. I have everything from Essie to OPI, Spa Ritual, Illamasqua, Deborah Lippmann to CoverGirl, Revlon, Rimmel, you name it.

I recently received some polishes from drugstore brand New York Color.  Their polishes, aptly called In a New York Minute, are a fast-drying colour.  The shades, which retail for a whopping C$2.29 each, come in a variety of hues and promise to dry in 60 seconds. I got three shades to test out: Fashion Safari, a nude; Water Street Blue, a blue; and Spring Street, a vibrant orange.

Fashion Safari Spring Street Water Street Blue

I used Sephora’s Formula X base and top coat for all the swatches, and two coats of polish for opaque colour.  I’m always hesitant with “quick-dry polishes”, as let’s be real, it’s not going to be completely dry in a minute, there’s a good chance you could chip it or something.  Also, the use of a regular top coat defeats the purpose as well.  Aside from that though, I do like how these turned out.  For the low price, you get really nice colour.

As for wearability, they aren’t the best, a couple days max before it starts to chip.  With that being said, I have tried many polishes that retail for over the $10 price point (*cough* Essie…) that chip after a day.  For two bucks, you can’t go wrong with these.

I also want to mention the brush. It’s one of those flat brushes that lay the colour down perfectly on your nail, making these basically foolproof.  New York Color is owned by Coty, who also do Sally Hansen and Rimmel London, and all three brands have the same kind of brush on their polishes, something which really does make all the difference in your manicure.

Overall, I highly recommend this line of polishes.  There are a variety of shades to choose from, and for the low price, might as well stock up!

Have you tried New York Color’s In a New York Minute nail polishes?
