All for a good cause: EOS Feel Good. Do Good. set

EOS TITLE

There’s more to October than just Halloween and Canadian Thanksgiving. As you may know, October is also commonly known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although you should donate any time of the year, lots of companies put out special pink-themed products with some or all of the proceeds going to breast cancer research. EOS is one of them.

EOS (Evolution of Smooth), known for their uber-popular lip balm spheres, has released a limited edition collection with 100 per cent (yes folks, 100 per cent) of the net profits going to the Canadian Cancer Society. The collection consists of a limited edition Strawberry Sorbet Smooth Sphere Lip Balm, Berry Blossom Hand Lotion and Pomegranate Raspberry Smooth Sphere Lip Balm. The set retails for C$9.99 and is available at major retailers nationwide until November 2014.

Although I think this is great value for a great cause, I was super excited to see their balm in a stick form. Although I know most people probably just buy their lip balms because of their cute sphere packaging, it’s rare to see their star product in a stick form. In fact, it’s only available in this particular set.   In case you didn’t know, their lip balms are 100 per cent natural and USDA-certified organic. They also have super soft ergonomic packaging (hey, it’s all about how it looks, right?!).

In case you haven’t tried their hand lotions yet, they also are quite ergonomic, fitting perfectly in the palm of your hand. The product is 96 per cent natural and the non-greasy formula is enriched with shea butter, aloe, and oat extract. All EOS products are paraben-free, as well as gluten-free.

I have a ton of EOS products, including their lip balms, shaving lotions, and hand lotions, but I feel like for just under $10, this set is a great gift. Buy it early and keep it on hand as a stocking stuffer, or keep it for yourself (who doesn’t need a couple lip balms and a lotion!?). Plus, with all the net profits going to the Canadian Cancer Society, how could you let this one slip away?

Have you tried EOS products?

In the big leagues: Polo Park Mall expansion + Twitter party!

Title Winnipeggers, have you heard? The city’s biggest mall had some pretty huge news last week.

No doubt the biggest shopping news since they announced H&M was coming to Winnipeg, Polo Park Mall, Manitoba’s largest shopping destination, officially opened their $49-million redevelopment on October 1, 2014.  The 114,000-square-foot redevelopment that took over the former Zeller’s space in the centre of the mall, is/will be home to 17 new retail outlets, including many first-to-market retailers in Winnipeg, such as Nine West, Thomas Sabo, Fossil, Watch It!, Journey’s, Saje, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologie.  The space also is home to The Disney Store, which closed its St. Vital location five years ago.

I was unable to attend the official opening, but made my way to the mall last Saturday.  To say the new wing was busy was an understatement.  Okay, Saturdays are usually busy at Polo Park (or, as us Winnipeggers like to call it, “Polo”), but it seemed like everyone and their kids (there was a massive line to get in The Disney Store) were there to check out the new retailers, some of which were there prior in Polo, but just moved to the new redevelopment.  The two stores I’m most excited to check out, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, won’t be open until October 16 and 17 respectively, but many of the other new retailers are already open, including Watch It!, Swarovski, Nine West, and Fossil.

Polo Park is having many exciting events happening this month to celebrate, including the Style Up Lounge, which features contests, fashion events, trend talks, photo ops, and so much more.  The lounge is located in the new development and is only open at certain times. Check out their site to find out more details.  Also, make sure you stop by the mall on October 17 in the evening for the Lou Lou Shops event.

And now for the most exciting part, Polo Park’s style team and local fashion voices (including myself – @ShaynaWiwierski) will be hosting a Twitter party on Tuesday, October 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Simply follow the hashtag #StyleUp and Polo Park on Twitter (@PoloPark WPG) to participate; there is no need to RSVP.  There will be five $50 Cadillac Fairview SHOP! gift cards given out throughout the hour.

I’m so excited to tweet with all of you next Tuesday! Good luck!

Have you been to Polo Park’s new expansion yet?

Slasher! Spooky Halloween nails

NAIL TITLE

Ever since I was little, my favourite holiday has always been Halloween.  Although Halloween for adults is much more different than it may be for kids (cute and adorable versus slutty), I still get excited every time October hits. I love watching scary movies, browsing the Halloween sections at different stores, picking out a Halloween costume for Ziggy (he gets a new one every year), and driving around and seeing all the houses decorated.

Although it may not be socially acceptable to wear your Halloween costume all month long, you can definitely get into the spirit early with your nails.

Sally Hansen is bringing it this month with their limited edition Halloween collection, which includes three Insta-Dri polishes, two Fuzzy Coats, and four Salon Effects. As part of their Insta-Dri Halloween collection, Sally Hansen has released three shades which are the most Halloween-like colours you’ll see this month. There’s an orange (Pumpkin Queen), a white (OMGhost), and a black (Night Fright).  The great thing about the Insta-Dri line in particular is its rich colour (you only need one coat) and super-fast drying time.  To add a bit of spice to your mani, layer one of the limited edition Fuzzy Coats, in either Witch-ful Thinking (orange and black confetti) or Fur-ankenstein (green and black confetti).

If DIY nail art isn’t your thing, try one of their Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips.  I’ve used these a lot and are hands-down my favourite nail polish stickers.  The Halloween ones (there are four in total) are super neat as they feature special effects, such as real lace fabric (Little Black Lace), and glow in the dark (Hallowscene).

For those of you who like going full out, try Broadway Nails imPRESS Halloween press-ons that are available in six different spooky designs.  I received four of the six and if you have tried Broadway Nails before, you know how amazing these are.  Just pick a nail that fits, remove the adhesive, and stick on.  They last for 10 days and will have everyone asking you where you got your nails done. They are quite long, so if you aren’t used to long nails (like me), it’s a bit of a challenge at first (especially when it comes to removing contact lenses). There are shorter ones available, but not in the Halloween designs.

Whatever you choose to outfit your claws with this Halloween, make sure they are “boo”-tiful.

What will you be sporting on your claws this October 31st?
