Sweater weather

TITLE

We have had a pretty mild winter in Winnipeg so far, so when we got hit with a heavy snowfall Friday night, it was time to bundle up.

Finding the perfect slightly oversized turtleneck that is both warm and flattering is apparently hard to come by, so I was super excited to find this one at H&M (for $30 no less!). Saturday day was reserved for trudging through the snow, playing the dogs, and lots and lots of shovelling.  Oh, how I love Canadian winters (sometimes…).

Back to basics: Drugstore makeup tutorial

Title

If there’s one thing I’ve learned by being a beauty blogger is that sometimes just because it costs more, doesn’t mean it’s the best.  I would say that half my collection consists of drugstore products, not because that yes, being a beauty blogger, we get sent tons of stuff to try out, but because there’s some really great stuff out there.

Usually in my looks, I will use a variety of high-end to low-end, but because it’s a new year and some of you may be purging out your collections or trying to save money, I wanted to come up with a look that consisted entirely of products you can find at your local drugstore.  Some of the stuff I used is new (mostly from CoverGirl), so keep a lookout this month for those items, they are seriously bomb.

Final 2 Steps 1. Lay down a foundation primer, like L’Oreal YouthCode Pore Vanisher Texture Perfector, then fill in your brows. I used CoverGirl Bombshell Powder Brow and Liner by LashBlast in Dark Brown.

2. Acting as an eyeshadow base, place Maybelline 24-Hour Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze on your lids.

3. For this look, I used CoverGirl’s new eyeshadow quad in Notice Me Nudes.  Grab colour three, the matte brown, and using a fluffy crease brush, work this into your crease.

4. With the champagne colour (colour one), apply this on your lids.

5. With a crease brush, work the second colour into your crease and blend.

6. With a pencil brush and colour four (the darkest one), lightly trace along the natural line in your crease and bring it down to the outer V.  Blend it all out.

7. Apply your foundation and concealer. I used CoverGirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous foundation and concealer.

8. Line your upper lash lash with a liquid eyeliner and wing it out. After, curl your lashes and apply a couple coats of mascara. I used NYX Two Timer Kohl and Liquid eyeliner (the liquid side) and CoverGirl Lash Blast Full Lash Bloom mascara.

9. With a brown cream shadow, like CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Melted Caramel Flame (350), apply this along your lower lash line.

10. With a white cream eyeshadow pencil, like CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in White Hot Flame, apply this along your brow bone and inner corner of your eye to highlight.

11. With the second colour from the CoverGirl quad, apply this over top of the cream brown shadow on your lower lash line.  Then apply a couple coats of mascara to your lower lashes.

12. Apply a bronzer to contour, I used Revlon Highlighting Palette in Bronze Glow, and then apply a cream blush. I used Revlon Cream Blush in Flushed. For the lips, I used Maybelline Color Elixir in Petal Push.

Final 1

Drugstore brands have been really stepping up their game lately with the products they are releasing.  Who would have thought five years ago there would be a drugstore equivalent of a foundation primer or a setting spray (L’Oreal is coming out with one this month). Even the products that are staples, like eyeshadows, are really getting better in quality.  For example, I haven’t been a fan of CoverGirl shadows in the past (especially their quads), however, these new quads they are releasing this month (started hitting drugstores last month) are fabulous, so much so that I want every single one (and Lord knows, I don’t need another eyeshadow palette).

Just goes to show, just because it costs more, doesn’t mean that its necessarily better.

What’s your favourite drugstore product?

Please note, this post contains products sent by PR. All opinions are my own.
