Seriously sexy: Make Up For Ever + 50 Shades of Grey Give In To Me Makeup Kit

title Looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?

Sure flowers, chocolates, and teddy bears are stereotypical V-Day presents, but really, I’m sure most people would want something they will actually use.

If you’re a makeup person, or even a huge 50 Shades of Grey fan, then you have to check out Make Up For Ever’s 50 Shades of Grey collection. I believe this is actually the first movie collaboration that the iconic Parisian makeup brand has released, and it doesn’t disappoint.  Even if you aren’t a fan of the franchise, you need to check this collection out.

There are three different sets in the collection (available at Sephora now) inspired by the main character Ana.  Hands-down the showstopper is their Give In To Me set, which is includes lip and eye products housed in a treasure box that also includes a secret compartment for love notes, makeup, or other naughty stuff ;).

Box book mirror products

The products included feature a four-shadow Artist Shadow palette in I-514, ME-612, S-556, I-625 (aka two iridescents, one metallic, and one shimmer), a full-size Graphic Eyeliner (which is one of their new products), a full-size Smoky Extravagant mascara, a full-size Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in N4, and a full-size Lab Shine lip gloss in D14. So you get eight full-size Make Up For Ever products for C$90 (a C$204 value).  Let me put this in perspective for you, four artist shadows would cost you $96 ($24 a shadow), so for six dollars less you also get a full-size mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and gloss, plus a gorgeous keepsake box, which even if you aren’t a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey, it’s still super cute and well worth the money (honestly, the only 50 Shades thing about it is on the pink stripe along the side which has quotes from the book).

The set also includes a little book, which has notes from makeup artist Victoria Down’s favourite looks, techniques, and backstage secrets.

Fifty Shades of Grey  the movie launches the day before Valentine’s Day, so I haven’t quite seen the makeup from the flick yet (although the book in the set features Ana’s looks all the way from innocent to sexy), but the variety of shades that MUFE included in this set are neutral enough that you could wear these everyday and create everything from natural to dramatic looks.

final 1 Steps 1. Lay down a pink-toned cream shadow as a base (I used Benefit’s RSVP Creaseless Cream Shadow), then with MUFE Artist Shadow in S-556 and a fluffy crease brush, lightly work this into your crease.

2. Using an eyeshadow brush, apply ME 612 all over the lid area.

3. With a crease brush, work I-628 into the crease area and blend.

4. Line your upper lash line, winging it out.  For an extra-black line, I used MUFE Graphic Liner.

5. Curl your lashes and apply a couple coats of mascara.  I used MUFE Smoky Extravagant mascara.

6. With I-628, smoke this along your lower lash line and then apply a coat of mascara to your lower lashes.  With I-514, apply this to the inner corner of your eyes and along your brow bone to highlight.

7. Apply your foundation, concealer, contour and blush (I used NARS Sheer Glow foundation in Vallarius, MUFE 5-Color Concealer palette, L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte powder in tan to contour, and Make Up For Ever HD Blush in 215).  For the lips I used MUFE Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in N4.

8. To add a bit of shine, apply MUFE Lab Shine lip gloss in D14.

final 2

I seriously cannot say enough good things about this set.  Even if you aren’t a Fifty Shades fan, this collection is seriously worth the money (and best of all, it’s not too in-your-face Fifty Shades of Grey).

Skip the flowers, chocolates, and teddy bears, your bae will love this way more.

Laters baby…

Will you be picking up anything from the Make Up For Ever Fifty Shades of Grey collection?

Smoke show: a look feat. L’Oreal Paris new Infallible products

TITLE

In case you haven’t noticed yet, L’Oreal Paris has been stepping up their game lately with their new Infallible products.  I’ve blogged a bit about some of the items that are new for 2015, but I wanted to create a look that put them to the test.

A couple weeks back I received some of the new items, including the makeup setting spray (love this stuff, it’s also the only setting spray I can think of by a drugstore brand), the Infallible Pro-Matte powder (which was way too dark for my skin, but works as an awesome bronzer), a lip colour, two of the nail polishes, their new first-ever eyeliner-eyeshadow hybrid with 14-hour wear, and the Black Angel Miss Manga mascara.  There is also a liquid foundation and a brow pumper product as well.

The most interesting item was definitely Smokissime by Infallible, which is an eyeliner and an eyeshadow.  The product features a sponge tip that you pump into the cap to get the product.  You can use it as an eyeliner (although expect more of a smoky liner look) or an eyeshadow.  I thought this thing would be great to use for a smoky eye since I received it in the black colour, so a night out with friends last Friday was the perfect time to put it to the test.  Smokissime also come in brown, taupe and purple.

Steps 1. Fill in your brows then lay down an eyeshadow base. Then, with a fluffy crease brush and a matte tan colour, place this lightly in your crease. The eyeshadows I used are all from the Smashbox Full Exposure palette.

2. With a taupe cream shadow, place this on your eyelid.  I used New York Color City Proof 2HR eyeshadow crayon in Tribeca Taupe.

3. With L’Oreal Paris’ Smokissime by Infallible pencil, place this all over the lid area.  After, blend out the colour in the crease area.

4. With a matte brown and a crease brush, blend out the crease area more.

5. Since this is a smoky eye, skip the eyeliner and go straight to your lashes. Curl your lashes then apply a couple coats of mascara, and if you wish, some falsies.  I used L’Oreal Paris Black Angel Miss Manga by Voluminous mascara.

6. Apply your foundation, then using the Smokissime pencil again, paint this along your lower lash line.  After, with the matte brown, blend it out.  Apply a shimmery cream to the inside corners of your eyes and along your brow bone to highlight.  To finish up the eyes, coat your bottom lashes in mascara then apply your concealer.

7. To contour I used L’Oreal Paris’ new Infallible Pro Matte powder in tan.  This is actually a foundation powder, but since I’m so pale, this tan colour is the perfect matte brown for a contour.

8. To finish up, apply a blush (I used a Make Up For Ever HD Blush) and highlight.  Then, with L’Oreal Paris’ Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender by Infallible, spray this all over your face to set your makeup.

Overall, these products left me quite impressed.  The matte powder (which I always use as a contour) and the setting spray have been on my regular rotation since I received them.  I’m not a huge fan of the Smokissime product as a liner, but as an eyeshadow for a smoky eye, it works great.  I also want to note that I was quite surprised that it didn’t have a lot of fall out.  I would still recommend applying your foundation last, but the product is quite clean to apply, it’s also something unique to me, I can’t think of any other product – drugstore or not – that is similar.

Kudos L’Oreal Paris, you’re killing it for January.

Are you excited to try some of the new Infallible products?

Never-ending colour: L’Oreal Paris Infallible nail polish

TITLE In case you haven’t noticed yet, L’Oreal Paris has updated their Infallible line.  From lip colours to foundations to even a new setting spray, these new Infallible products are super long wearing, full of colour, and just all-around amazing.

New to the roster are the Infallible Nail Polishes, which are a double-ended product that includes colour and a top coat. Although the packaging makes it look like there’s a brush on either end, each colour pulls out of the holder to reveal a regular nail polish jar (although a tad smaller than your typical polish).  Just like other brands, this line of polish is long-wearing with a “gel” shine. Each colour (12 in total) is supposed to have a 12-day wear, give you a gel shine, leave no nail damage, and are easy to remove.  Depending on the colour, the top coat is either clear or tinted to match the shade.

I’ve tried tons of “at-home” gel polishes that it seems like every drugstore brand is releasing.  Some are definitely better than others, with L’Oreal being one of the best I’ve tried. I received two colours, Iconic Indigo (which has a blue-tinted top coat) and Petale Revival.  At first glance, Petale Revival, a sheer nude pink, was way more appealing, as Iconic Indigo has that holographic effect which I always associate with more mature women, however, when I painted them on, it was opposite.  Iconic Indigo is such a stunning purple that is so eye-catching.  Two coats did the trick, compared to Petale Revival, where I had to use four since it’s so sheer.

Iconic indigo Petale Revival

Both colours held up fairly well. I applied Petale Revival last Friday and as I’m typing this (Wednesday) it’s still pretty immaculate (some nails are slightly chipped, but I have thin nails).  I also put my nails through the ringer as I was travelling Saturday to Tuesday.  Although I don’t think you could get a 12-day perfect wear, this stuff holds up way better than a number of other polishes.  I was looking at the other colours online, and although the collection isn’t as vast as others out there, the 12 shades they chose to introduce the line are actually pretty nice.  I would definitely pick up the majority, if not all of them (not like I need more nail polish though…).

Again, not a true gel polish (they don’t give you that hardness that I love in a gel manicure), but for longevity and colour, L’Oreal nailed it with these.

Will you be trying the new L’Oreal Paris Infallible polishes?
