Hair RX: New styling products from L’Oreal Professionnel

title Blowdrying, curling, you name it, your hair goes through a lot. Let’s be real here, heat styling is the bomb.com.  I don’t usually just let my hair go au natural. So naturally, I need a little help to keep my locks in check.

Enter L’Oreal Professionnell’s new styling products.  First up is their new Mythic Oil Seve Protectrice, the first protective oil-in-cream for blow drying.  This product, as part of their mega-popular Mythic Oil line, has the highest thermo-protection on the market at 230 degrees Celsius (446 degrees F).  The secret ingredient in the formula?  Black cumin oil. This traditional Arabic and Chinese medicine soothes inflammations and sunburns and stimulates the immune system, as well as being anti-inflammatory.

In case you weren’t familiar with L’Oreal Professionnel’s original Mythic Oil, it’s a nourishing hair oil to treat, tame, and illuminate hair, leaving strands smooth, supple and infused with condition and shine.

Dual stylers

I apply this particular product (which retails for C$26) to damp hair after my split-end tamer and another serum (either the L’Oreal Professionnel Lipidium Absolute or Pureology). Make sure to keep this away from the roots, instead focusing on the ends and mid-shaft of your hair. I have noticed that my hair is smooth and soft and looks shiny when I curl it.  Best of all, and especially the most important, my hair looks and feels healthy.  Sometimes with hot tools and bad weather (AKA winter), it can look dry and dull.

After using the Mythic Oil product, I’ve been reaching for L’Oreal Professionnel Dual Stylers by Techni.Art Liss & Pump-Up. This gel product is also new and has completely replaced my volumizing mousse.

The duo bodying cream and gel plumps hair by the gel Intra-cyclane product in it, while also leaving you with a velvety blow dry.  As a result, styling become easier, there’s anti-static protection ( a must during this time of the year), and adds shine.  Best of all, it plumps your hair with two-times more volume, adds body and heat protection and has humidity protection. I apply this to my roots prior to blow-drying my hair, making sure to lift the hair at the root.

Hair

Liss & Pump-Up (C$26) is part of a three-product line, which also includes Sleek & Swing and Bouncy & Tender.

Sleek & Swing is also a cream and gel formula that drastically devolumizes, but adds fluid movement.  You get less volume with this product and sleek, flexible strands.  It leaves you with easy combing and brushing and adds shine.  You also get long-lasting malleability and frizz protection and heat protection.

Bouncy & Tender leaves you with bouncy curls and a voluptuous touch.  You get defined curls with softness and shine, as well as hydration and definition.

All three products are a gel and cream formula, which you combine together prior to applying to your hair.  My favourite is definitely Liss & Pump Up, since I usually rock volumized hair.  Very rarely will I want a sleek look, and I don’t have curly hair, so I passed it along to a curly-haired bestie for her thoughts (and she has crazy curly hair). The real draw for me with these products are the fact that they offer so much more than volume, sleekness or bounce.  You get anti-static, frizz protection, heat protection, elasticity, and so much more.  Essentially, it’s like five styling products in one, all for $26 each. Total score.

I do have a lot of hair products in my collection, but these ones have definitely been in my regular rotation since I got them, and I would definitely check out your local L’Oreal Professionnel salon to pick these up.

A thin line: Rimmel London ScandalEyes Jumbo Liquid Eyeliner

Title I’m always down to try a new eyeliner, so you can imagine my excitement when I received Rimmel London’s new ScandalEyes Jumbo Liquid Eyeliner.

As part of its ScandalEyes line (which has a number of mascaras and pencil eyeliners), their Jumbo Liquid Eyeliner looks more like a marker than a typical liquid eyeliner.  The jumbo applicator is used to draw an intense bold black line, which is billed to last up to 24 hours.  Best of all, it’s waterproof and smudge proof.

Tip

I don’t have any other liquid liner in my collection with an applicator this large, so I was a bit hesitant at first at how well it would work. Typically you want your eyeliner to have a fine point, which this one does have (it tapers to a fine point), but it’s not difficult to use at all because it dispenses the colour quite nicely.  You get a nice, even dark line that is quite smooth. There’s no tugging or dragging of the product at all. Best of all, it really does last a long time. There isn’t much budging, which is great especially this time of the year, since I find my eyes tend to water if I go outside for long periods of time, which usually (depending on the eyeliner used), smudges the line.  Totally not a cute look.

Eyeliner

Overall, if you are looking for an inexpensive liquid liner, this would be it. Yes, it looks more like a Sharpie than a liquid liner, but it really does pull off a nice line.

Have you tried Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Jumbo Liquid Eyeliner?

Everything fresh: Spring-time staples from P&G Beauty + giveaway

title It’s spring! Sprrrrinnnngggggg!! Sorry, can you tell I’m a little excited?

A couple weeks back us Beauty United girls received a box of goodies from P&G Beauty with fresh products for spring 2015.  Everything comes in the nick of time since everything is moisturizing, fresh, and geared towards bringing out the best you.  Although I pretty much loved everything, I’ve been using three new additions on the ‘reg since I got them.

Pantene dry defy

Pantene Expert Dry Defy Shampoo, Conditioner, and Velvet Creme Infusion

The new Dry Defy collection includes a Shampoo, Conditioner and Velvet Crème Infusion that are designed to work together to help replenish lost moisture (winter weather perhaps?). It does this by targeting areas where moisture is most easily lost, helping to lock down cuticles, seal and protect hair strands from drying out, starting from the roots.

In case you didn’t know, Pantene’s Expert line launched in 2012 and is a premium offering of products.  They include superior ingredients, nicer packaging, and are designed for women who want elegant salon-quality products.  You will also find this line separate from the regular Pantene line, where it also retails for a higher price point.

Hair

The Dry Defy collection is designed for women with chronic hair dryness.  Whether it’s environmental factors or an extensive use of hot tools, this line will bring back moisture and shine to dry, dull hair.  I think we all know how shampoo and conditioner works, but the one styling product of the line is the Dry Defy Velvet Creme Infusion, which reacts to the salt in your body and changes right before your eyes.  Focus it on the ends of the hair, working up the shaft, ignoring the roots.  The product doesn’t sit on your hair, it sinks in, helping to smooth and soothe dry locks.

I’ve been using these products religiously since I got them, and although I do have my favourite haircare line (which is a salon brand), I have always enjoyed Pantene’s products.  I have been using a few other styling products in addition to the Pantene Expert one, but overall my hair feels soft and looks shiny.  Although they do retail for more than the regular Pantene line, they still are around the $10 price mark, making them still affordable.

Olay Olay Regenerist Luminous Facial Oil and Overnight Mask

Although I have a set face routine (which involves a Clarisonic, cleanser, makeup remover, toner, serums, under-eye treatment and moisturizer), it still seems like my skin isn’t as radiant as it once was. I’m going to blame the winter weather, so these two products came at the perfect time.

Did you know that cold weather can remove moisture from your skin, causing it to become dehydrated, flaky and tight?  Dehydration can even lead to long-term damage, causing skin to age faster.

After all my night-time routine stuff, I’ve been slathering on the Overnight Mask.  This is something new in my collection, as all the other masks I have you wash off after anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Unlike a typical peel-off mask, this gel, which contains Vitamin B3, Mulberry extract, and humectants absorbs into the surface of the skin throughout the night. Think of it like an intense moisturizer that works overnight at the surface cell level evening out skin tone over time. This guy retails for around $40, but the bottle is so big it will last you a while.

Another new staple is the Regenerist Luminous Facial Oil, which is infused with nine enriched, naturally derived oils that work together to create luminous skin.  Apply four to five drops after your moisturizer morning and night.  Perfume and dye-free, this facial oil conditions and protects skin.

These oils have been all the rage this season, as I also have one from L’Oreal Paris (although I haven’t had a chance to try that one yet – I only have one face!). I do apply this morning and night (when I’m not using the mask), however, it does leave your face quite oily, so keep that in mind if you have oily skin to begin with (it could make your makeup smudge throughout the day if applied in the morning).

Fresh effects

Olay Fresh Effects {Spot Zinger!} and {Swirled Mattifier!}

A few weeks ago, I got a giant zit that was more of a small mountain rather than pimple on the side of my face.  It was one of those painful suckers, and to make matters worse, it was at the same place where I would place the mic I use when I teach fitness classes.  As you can imagine, it was a pretty painful week.  Luckily, these guys came at the right time.

I haven’t tried the {Swirled Mattifier} yet, but it’s supposed to instantly reduce the look of shine and redness. This all-in-one product offers 10 instant complexion benefits in one bottle: diminishes oil, reduces the look of redness, minimizes the look of breakouts, primes skin for makeup, decreases the look of pores, smoothes skin’s surface, mattifies and brightens skin, and evens out skin tone and hydrates.  Phew, that’s a lot.

I don’t really suffer from redness or enlarged pores, but I think that this product would be perfect for teen skin.  It retails for a SRP of $12.99.

Now the star product, in my opinion, {Spot Zinger} is a two-in-one acid acne spot treatment.  I don’t have acne so I didn’t think I would enjoy this product, but like I said, I had a mountain of a zit that I just had to get rid of, so I tried it.  Four days later, that pimple was gone.

This spot treatment is formulated with two per cent salicylic acid and beautifiers to instantly improve the look of blemishes in just 10 minutes. And, its fine-point tip targets blemishes individually to instantly battle and blur. Retailing for $12.99, I put a dab of the product on my finger and then rubbed it lightly on the pimple.

Now since I love all these products so much, I want to give them all to one lucky reader! Enter the Rafflecopter below to win all the products I mentioned.  Giveaway is open to Canadian residents only, at the age of majority in their resident province.  Contest closes on March 27, 2015.

Good luck!
