The new #BFF: Black Friday hits Polo Park mall

488x800-BF_EN

Four more days!!!

If you know me, you’ll know I’m crazy about new store openings and Boxing Day.  When it comes to shopping, I don’t mess around.  I am that girl that wakes up at 5 a.m. to hit the stores bright and early to get the best deals (or 4 a.m. if it’s an IKEA grand opening…).  Minus a million weather?  Pff, that ain’t going to stop me.  I love the rush, the crowds, the excitement.

Traditionally here in Canada, Boxing Day was the one day of the year where stores and retailers offered the best deals, but to keep the Canadian economy going, and to keep our cash in our country, pretty much every retailer has followed America’s lead and brought Black Friday deals to our home and native land.

I attended Black Friday last year at Polo Park Mall and did find some amazing deals (tons of stuff at Lululemon for $19!), and of course, as time goes by, Black Friday has gotten bigger and better.

Although Black Friday lands on November 28, Polo Park is starting the celebration early.  From now until November 26, shoppers will have the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree with a stylist on Black Friday.  To enter, stop by Centre Court at the stylist activation boot, or visit their website, or download the new CF SHOP! app.  Contest closes on November 26 at 5 p.m. CST.

app

Speaking of the app, available now, the app features store promotions, events, a store directory, and customers can check their SHOP! gift card balances (SHOP! cards make perfect gifts because you can use them at most stores at any Cadillac Fairview mall). For those shoppers who like to get interactive, stop by Centre Court and sign up for a free style consultation until this Wednesday, November 26.

And finally, the day we’ve been waiting for, Polo Park opens at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, November 28 (although I did see this weekend that Bath & Body Works opens at 6 a.m.).  Both 103.1 Virgin Radio and 99.9 BOB FM will be broadcasting live in Centre Court starting at 8 a.m., and of course Santa will be there as well (he loves a good deal too!).  Also, come dressed to impress as Swish Productions will be surprising some fashionable shoppers with SHOP! cards throughout the day.

Unfortunately I work on Black Friday, but if there are any really good doorbusters I might have to make it to the mall for 7 a.m.  If not, I’ll be stopping by as soon as I get off work for the day.  I’m planning on hitting Lululemon, Sephora, Apple, H&M, The Bay, and Dynamite for some #BFF (Black Friday Fashions, obviously!).

Are you excited for Black Friday?  What stores will you be hitting up?

Please note, this is a sponsored post on behalf of Polo Park Mall and Cadillac Fairview.  I will be receiving compensation for this post.  Regardless, you’ll still find me at the mall on November 28 ;).

A bouquet of lashes: CoverGirl Lashblast Full Lash Bloom mascara

TITLE A cult favourite has another sister coming to town.

Launching in December, CoverGirl Lashblast Full Lash Bloom mascara promises a full lash look that’s soft to the touch.  The pink brush “creates volume from root to tip and combs and coats cases evenly for full separated volume”. Different from other Lashblast versions, this one has a soft mousse formula made with natural beeswax to provide “volume that stays soft to the touch all day”.

Brush

I have tried a few versions of Lashblast, including the original and Clump Crusher, which is one of my favourite mascaras in general, so I was super pumped to try this one out.  The mascara is the same size as the other versions, but this one is housed in a pink casing with flowers on it (swoon!).  The brush is made up of short and long bristles, but not angled like Clump Crusher.

SWATCHES

Overall, I thought this mascara was alright.  I much prefer Clump Crusher if I had to choose between that one and this one.  My lashes did feel slightly softer, however, I could still feel some mascara on them.  This mascara does give you nice lashes, but nothing show-stopping (for example, no one asked me what mascara I was wearing).

Are you excited to try out CoverGirl Lashblast Full Lash Bloom mascara?

Sugar + spice: Too Faced Everything Nice holiday set

Title What’s sugar and spice and everything nice?  Well, Too Faced’s 2014 holiday set, of course!

This is the third year where I have received Too Faced’s holiday set, which always includes a palette and some sort of goodie.  Two years ago it was an eyeshadow brush and a full-size of Too Faced Shadow Insurance, all housed in a tin; last year it was a mini of their fab Better Than Sex mascara and Lip Injection Color Bomb! in Bee Sting with a chevron envelope bag; and this year it’s a couple brushes, Better Than Sex mascara, and a pink sequin clutch.

Along the same lines of their past two holiday collections, you get 20 eyeshadows, two blushes (a pink and a coral), a bronzer (their yummy Chocolate Soleil – smells like chocolate), and a highlight (which was the only thing missing from last year’s set).  In addition, you get three brushes – an eyeshadow brush, an angled eyeliner brush, and a contour brush.  Also, don’t forget about the travel-sized Better Than Sex mascara (a personal fave) and the gorgeous pink sequin clutch (one side only, it also doesn’t fit the palette for some strange reason).  Always a staple in their holiday sets, you also get a little pamphlet with different looks to recreate.

products Open palette Eyeshadows Blushes

Like I said, Too Faced basically releases this set every year, just switches the colours up and the additional products it comes with. This one is very similar to last year’s A Few of My Favourite Things set, but slightly enhanced, as that one had two bronzers, as opposed to this one which has the one, plus a highlight.  I always find these are great value for what you get, as this retails for C$68, with a value of C$545.  The quality in the products is also fabulous, I did a smoky eye using this set (see below) and there was virtually no fall out, which is great considering I used the darkest shade, Chocolate Moon, which also contains glitter.

Since this is a holiday palette, I chose something dark and festive, perfect for a Christmas party.  There are a variety of colours in this palette, everything from mattes to shimmers to glimmers, which makes it a great set to have on hand, but especially so for travel because of its sleek size and its contents (it has basically everything you need in terms of shadows, blushes, bronzer, and highlight).

Final Steps 1. Fill in your brows and lay down an eyeshadow primer (I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance to keep it in the family).  Then with Turtle Dove, apply this on your brow bone as your highlight.

2. With a fluffy crease brush and Fawned of You, lightly work this into your crease, acting as your transition shade.

3. With a black cream shadow (I used this one from Yves Rocher), apply this all over the lid area, it’s okay if it’s sloppy, you just want to place the colour down. Try not to get it into your crease.

4. With Chocolate Moon and a dense flat shader brush, pack this only on your lid over the black cream shadow, try not to get it into the crease.

5. Using a clean fluffy crease brush, grab Be You and blend this into your crease, making sure to blend out the black so there are no harsh lines.

6. Curl your lashes, apply a few coats of mascara and if you wish, pop on some falsies.

7. With a brown cream shadow, apply this along your lower lash line.

8. Using a mix of Girly and Chocolate Moon, lightly place this over the brown cream shadow we used along the lower lash line. Curl your bottom lashes and you are complete.

I used Chocolate Soleil as my contour, Papa Don’t Preach as my blush and Inner Light as my highlight.

I know this set is sold out online, but if you were interested in it, check your local Sephora store.  I loved last year’s Too Faced palette and I feel like this one is so similar, but has the addition of the highlight, which makes it more complete in my opinion.  The set from two years ago was housed in a tin, which is pretty for gift purposes, but not for storage and travel, so this year’s set is a far improvement compared to that one.

I think this is the perfect gift for any girl, and one of my best friends will be finding one of these guys under their tree this year.

Is the Too Faced Everything Nice set on your wish list?

Please note, product sent by PR, all opinions are my own.
