Summer brights: Yves Rocher summer 2015 polishes + swatches

YR title

If there’s one summer collection I look forward to, Yves Rocher’s is definitely high on my list.

I received a ton of products from their Bleu Vegetal collection, and I naturally gravitated towards their polishes first.

Considering how affordable their polishes are (regular C$6, on sale online for C$3.50), the quality has always struck me as very good (rivalling $20 polishes).  Their summer collection features seven polishes (I received six of them) and are formulated with Elemi resin for an optimum shine, coverage and lasting in one single stroke.  These are a bit bigger than their typical nail polishes and I have found the formula to be better than the past colours I’ve tried. These guys feature a wider brush that makes applying the polish a breeze (similar to OPI and Rimmel’s polishes where the brush fits your nail bed), and all the colours were pretty opaque in just one stroke.

Perfect Light Pink Intense Tangerine anthracite Ocean Blue Aqua Blue Soft Coral

The colour payoff and formulation is great, so much so that I can’t even pick a favourite.  The only thing to note is that Ocean Blue stained worse than I have ever experienced.  The polish pretty much got all over my hands.  I have used a polish stain as bad as this one did, but with that being said, it’s a dark colour, which I find with darker blues are a common occurrence.

Overall, I love the collection and so happy they updated the formulation and bottles. This one is a winner.

Have you tried Yves Rocher’s nail polishes before?

Colour couture: Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme

Marc Jacobs title

I’ve been obsessed with Marc Jacobs’ cosmetics line ever since I saw him in Vegas a few years back (it was actually the worst “meet & greet” I’ve ever experienced). I mean what’s not to love? The sleek monochromatic packaging, the colours, the abundance of products, I want it all.

When it comes to his line, the products are very hit and miss.  I love the liquid eyeliner, the shadows, and the lipsticks, but hated the mascara. Well, I guess his line is a work in progress since they’ve been reformulating a few of their products, including the lipsticks.

I picked up one of the Lovemarc Lip Gels (no longer available) in Strange Magic when they first released the line and it’s still one of my favourite nude lipsticks (although you definitely have to be pale to wear it, it can easily cross that “corpse lips” line quite easily). Strange Magic is still available, but it looks like Marc Jacobs split his lipstick line into two different collections, where the more pale nude colours are part of the Nudes Sheer Lip Gels and the colourful, darker shades are the Le Marc Lip Creme.

Bottoms
Colours

The new Le Marc Lip Creme, which came out in the beginning of this year (don’t quote me on this though) are an incredibly pigmented lipstick with a velvet texture, as well as hydrating to your lips and last for hours.  Available in 20 shades, this lipstick, billed with a wear time of 10 hours, saturates your lips in intense colour in just one swipe.  They contain powerful peptides, antioxidant-rich seaberry, and natural humectants, including meranti and cocoa butter.

I didn’t think I would notice a difference between the two formulas (LoveMarc versus Le Marc) but once I applied one of the new shades it was obvious.  These lipsticks are incredibly creamy.  Since I have a penance for pinks, I gravitated towards Jolly Molly first and thought “wow” once I applied it.  One application was good enough and the way it makes your lips feel is just incredible as opposed to the old formula, which had a plastic-y smell and a waxy texture.

These lipsticks are billed to last a long time, and they definitely do.  I don’t find I have to reapply throughout the day, even after hours of chatting, eating and drinking.  With that being said, since the colours are on the darker side for the most part, I do typically find that darker shades tend to last a long time on my lips anyways, regardless of the brand or price.

J'adore Core Cora Jolly Molly Blow Boy Gorgeous

I’ve included swatches from the five colours I received, and although none them really stood out to me when I first saw them, once they were applied I appreciated the shades much more and can see myself wearing every single one.  They retail for C$38 a pop, which is pricey for a lipstick, but I definitely recommend picking up at least one just to try it out since the formula is so luxurious and creamy.

What I’m bringing to EDC Las Vegas 2015

EDC TITLE Greetings from Vegas!

So tonight marks the first night of the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas and it’s my first time attending.  I’m not really a festival girl, but EDC LV has been on my bucket list for years so I’m so excited to party dusk til dawn tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday.

Although I’m pretty conservative when it comes to raver fashion, this trip is a huge YOLO adventure.  I mean, when else will I possibly get to wear a bedazzled bra and a neon green tutu?

Fashion aside, I did tons of brainstorming when it came to packing the beauty products for this weekend. From metallic tattoos to leg spray, here’s what I packed for EDC Las Vegas.

flash tattos and hair Flash tattoos open Sephora Collection Shine Beautifully Metallic Gold Temporary Tattoos (C$13) are a no-brainer.  You can pick up flash tattoos pretty much anywhere nowadays (I got some for $3 at Wal-Mart and my friends got some for a dollar at Dollarama), but these Sephora ones are so cute and offer up 17 different designs to really customize your look.

For hair, I’m packing a couple curling irons, but also threw in my bag the Sephora Collection Art of Braid kit, which includes hair ribbons, colourful bobby pins, and a step-by-step book to create numerous styles of braids.

liner and lashes open liner

Since it’s all about colour, I made sure to bring some colourful eyeliners, like Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Peridot (C$30), which is a sage green shimmer.  This particular product can be used as a liner or as a gel shadow and has intense colour payoff.

For liquid, I had to throw in a blue, so I brought along Kat Von D Ink Liner in Nerdrum (sea blue) and Dali (teal), C$23 each.

Obviously lashes are a must, so I packed a couple packs of the Kiss EZ Lashes.

Shadows lips and nails

For the eyes, I brought some colourful shadows, as well as glitters.  I love Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow in Kitten (C$42) and Make Up For Ever glitter.

For the lips, you guys know I love my nude lips, but I also brought along the Sephora Collection Lustre Matte Long-Wear Lip Colour in Orchid Luster (C$20), which stays on the lips forever (which is great because I don’t believe you are allowed to bring in open lip products), and it’s the most gorgeous fuchsia colour.

For the nails, I went with imPRESS Press-On accent nails, which are coral and feature a chevron accent.

sprays

Finally, since the makeup needs to last dusk ’til dawn, Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray is a must.  And, since the clothes will be at a minimum (have you seen the EDC fashion), Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is a must.

To wash it all off at 8 a.m., I also brought along the Sephora Collection Ultimate Warming Cleanser (C$22), which has a honey-like texture that warms up and heats off your makeup.

As for fashion, DIY raver bras, neon tuts, fanny packs, and one-pieces are going to be rocked all weekend. Oh, and lots of kandi ;).

Are you going to EDC Las Vegas? What are you wearing?
