Blank space: eos shave cream

Title

It’s summer, which means shorts season.

Ladies, I know we get a little relaxed when it comes to shaving our legs in the winter months, but with warm weather comes shorts, skirts, and dresses.  Which means that we need to keep those legs nice and smooth.

I’m not really picky when it comes to shaving lotion. Heck, I’ll be honest, most times I’m too lazy to even apply it; I’ll just do a dry shave. Not only does this increase the risk of getting nicked by my razor, but it’s also bad for the moisture in my skin.  Although my legs aren’t my favourite feature, I’ve worked very hard to be confident in wearing shorts and not being self-conscious about my gams (I used to be much heavier as a child and teenager).

Anyways, what I’m getting at here is that we should be taking care of one of our most important limbs.

eos has recently reintroduced their shaving cream, which is innovative enough that it doesn’t lather when you apply it. Instead, it acts as a moisturizer; thin on the skin and moisturizing to your legs. This new formula delivers 24 hours of skin-brightening moisture, due to its unique ingredient blend of vitamin B3, grape seed extract and green tea to help improve skin condition and brighten skin to leave you with more even-toned skin.

The lotion still contains natural conditioning oils, shea butter, and vitamins C and E, so it moisturizes your skin for 24 hours, and best of all, you can use it wet or dry. Because the product doesn’t foam, you get a closer shave, which helps prevent nicks, cuts and razor bumps. The paraben-free formula is housed in an ergonomic plastic bottle that is easy to grip (and pretty to the eyes).  It features a pump, which I’ve always had issues with, as I have to manually push it back up after pumping down on it, as I usually like using three to four pumps of product per leg. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying.

EOS

These guys are available in three scents, Pomegranate Raspberry, Vanilla Bliss, and Lavender Jasmine, and have a suggested retail price of C$5.69 each.

I received two scents, Pomegranate Raspberry and Lavender Jasmine.  I’ve tried Lavender Jasmine many times so I naturally gravitated towards the pink bottle, Pomegranate Raspberry.  I’ve never had issues with this shaving lotion in the past and always found that it made my legs nice and moisturized after using it, so I was a fan of the original formula already.  After reading that this should improve skin condition and brighten skin, I was excited to see how it would work with my skin.  I have some scars (aka memories of my bar-star days when I was 19) on one of my legs, so I was hoping that it would diminish those problem areas, however, I didn’t really notice a difference. My skin didn’t look more even-toned, it just looked normal. Which I mean, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I believe they just enhanced the original formula, so it isn’t like this is a separate line.  I’ve only used this product a couple times, so who knows what my skin will look like in a month from now after continuous use.

Overall, I’ve never had any issues with this shaving lotion, so just because I didn’t see brighter skin, it doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t recommend it. The only issue I know people have  with this particular product is that it applies thin, not frothy like other shaving creams. I don’t mind it since that way it doesn’t clog the razor.  If you were a fan of the original formula, I would certainly give this a try.

Feeling lippy: Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss

title

Let’s be real here, if there’s one makeup item you take everywhere, it’s a lip product.

I’m definitely more of a fan of lipsticks, but there’s something about glosses that pulls me in.  They’re the ying to the yang, the Selma to Louise, the Bonnie to Clyde; they’re the perfect finishing touch to any lip.

Make Up For Ever released their new glosses, called Artist Plexi-Gloss in May 2015.  This line includes a staggering 35 shades, which are divided into five categories: nudes, corals, pinks, reds and arty shades (think non-conventional shades like black), and two versions, pearl for a shine that’s peppered with fine pearlizers, and pure for intense colour.

Labels

These guys were inspired by Plexiglas, a material that was popular in the 1980s, and it was a Plexiglas vanity case that MUFE founder Dany Sanz had that inspired her to create the line. Each gloss contains Prizmalite spherical micro-beads which give the product incredible shine, as well as a high percentage of pigments.

I received two colours, 201 (a sheer light rose) and 300P (a pearly golden pink coral), which fortunately for me are my kind of shades, but unfortunate for the purpose of this post as they aren’t the best combination of colours to really review the line. Both of these shades are sheer glosses, as opposed to the more opaque colours, which the line really promotes. Overall they give good colour, however — and this is a big one for me — these glosses are so sticky.  Think MAC Lipglasses.  They are like honey on your lips, which yes, makes them glossy and long lasting, but for me, quite uncomfortable to wear (especially if it’s windy.. *shudder*).

201
300P

The brush on these is exclusive. Make Up For Ever calls is a Superflex applicator, which is a foam material that has a flat side and a rounded tip with a split down the middle.  The flat side of the applicator can roll the colour across the lips and the rounded tip is used to fill in the cupid’s bow. The flat side is also used to draw the lip contour with precision (which is helpful for the more opaque shades). Personally I felt the brush was quite flimsy and didn’t pick up enough product.  I prefer a more steady applicator, like a doe foot or actual brush, which some of the other MUFE glosses have.

Overall, these were alright. Like I said, I can’t really give a fair review since I haven’t tried the opaque shades.  The sheer ones are very pretty and nice layered over a lipstick.  For me personally, they are too sticky, but everyone is different when it comes to the preference of gloss.

All set: Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray

Skin title Someone is celebrating a milestone birthday this year.

Happy 10th anniversary Skindinavia.  Unfamiliar with the brand?  I bet you aren’t.  Skindinavia is the original authority on makeup finishing sprays.  Applied as a lightweight, breathable mist, Skandinavia makeup setting finishing sprays are the only product clinically proven to set liquid and powder makeup and hold cosmetics in place for 16 hours.

Setting sprays are all the rage nowadays.  I’ve been using them for years now when I first got my hands on Urban Decay All Nighter, which is actually made by Skindinavia. Since then I’ve tried a variety of others, include L’Oreal Paris (which is new), Make Up For Ever, and Victoria Secret Beauty. But it all started with Skindinavia. They were the first brand to use patented temperature-control technology to keep makeup from melting and becoming too shiny.  It’s also proven to keep colours vibrant for up to 16 hours.

The brand was founded in 2005 by cosmetic industry veteran Allen Goldman.  He launched the revolutionary Makeup Finishing Spray after two years of development. However, it’s the story of how the idea came about that’s the really interesting part though.

Goldman was inspired to create the setting spray in a Miami nightclub after being surrounded by melted makeup.  We’ve all been there ladies.  Shiny foundation, streaked bronzer, smudged eyeliner.  It’s not pretty. It’s because of these things that Goldman theorized that if he was able to prevent makeup from becoming overheated, he could solve the problem of a makeup meltdown (no pun intended).  He gained access to top national chemists and an interested ingredient; he observed a new temperature-control technology that could provide a time-released cooling property on the surface of the skin when needed. The product was tested under extreme conditions for makeup, such as NYC subways, Vegas showgirls performing in 110-degree heat, and Lady Gaga’s international tours.

before and after

Like I said, I’ve used many setting sprays, but there’s something about the way that the product is distributed that really sets this one apart.  The product is sprayed as a mist, so it’s very light on the face. I’ve had issues in the past with other setting sprays where I spray too much and then my makeup is wet and smudges, completely defeating the purpose and, to be honest, really annoying me in the process. Scandinavia nailed it with their packaging.

Do I think it makes my makeup look fresh for 16 hours?  No.  But, my makeup does look pretty good still. The before and after was done around 11 hours apart, after a full work day and an hour at the gym. Overall, my makeup held up pretty well.

Unfortunately, Skindinavia’s sprays aren’t that easy to by across in stores (unless you purchase the Urban Decay ones that are made by the brand).  However, you can order them online at Skindinavia.com.

Have you tried Skindinavia’s makeup setting sprays?  What were your thoughts?
