Staten Island staples: My favourite products from New York Color

Title

Crazy how a year can fly by just. like. this.

For the past year I’ve been part of the New York Color Beauty Pro program, where us bloggers were sent a package every month full of NYColor goodies and a challenge.  From nails to lips to pop art, I have looked forward to every challenge that the brand has thrown my way.

This month, to wrap the first year of the program our challenge was an easy one. Share our favourite NYColor products.

To say that I have a pretty big collection of products from the affordable brand would be an understatement.  In fact, I have so many that it fills a whole traincase, and then some.

Open case Lipsticks

I’ve gotten to play around with many of their lines as they were released, and best of all, I’ve found a few faves along the way. Best lip product?  Definitely the Expert Last Lipsticks, which come in a variety of shades (I’ve amassed around eight of them) and are a big must-have from the line. These guys retail for a measly $1.99 and give you pigmented moisturizing colour that lasts for up to six hours.  My faves are definitely Smooth Beige, Forever Fuchsia, and Creamy Mauve.

As for eyes, although I do like their shadows, I have been obsessed with the City Proof 24-Hr Waterproof Eyeshadow ($4.99 each), which come in like a billion colours.  I have 10 of them, including the base, which acts like a primer, and I use these all the time as a shadow primer. You can also just wear them on their own or as an eyeliner, so there’s so many ways to rock them.

My faves from the line are 5th Ave Gold Rush, Murray Hill Champagne, Brooklyn Mocha (all neutral shades), and the base (great to layer under any eyeshadow).

Honourable mention also goes to the Sparkle Eye Dust, which are glittery pigments that you apply with a doe-foot applicator.  Love these, but the only thing is they have a tendency to give you a lot of fallout, so apply your foundation last!

Top drawer

In addition to naming our favourite products from the past year, we were tasked to come up with a look using all those goodies that we’ve been loving.  For the eyes, I went with the Sparkle Eye Dust in Golden Champagne with the brown shade from the HD Color Trio Eye Shadow in Blues Cafe.  For the liner, I used the HD Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Black with Big Bold Angel Lash mascara on my lashes. To contour, I used Smooth Skin Bronzing Power (a beauty blogger favourite!), and on the cheeks I grabbed the Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder in Pink Cheek Glow. For the lips, I used Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuchsia.

Me

Huge thank you to New York Color for the opportunity to try so many wonderful products. If you haven’t tried the line yet, don’t let the prices fool you.  Everything is super affordable (their nail polishes retail for $1.99 a pop!), but the quality is great. Plus, they offer so many different products in the line that you can really build up your beauty collection without breaking your budget.

Beauty school supplies with P&G + a giveaway!

School title

With September already around the corner (geez, how time flies!), it’s time to start thinking about back to school.

Although I’ve been out of school for five years (and high school for nine), I still get excited about back-to-school time.  In fact, I think I get a bit envious of students who get to shop for new notebooks, pens, clothes, and electronics. Yes, I can still do that, but there’s nothing like picking out that perfect first-day-back-at-school outfit, even though mine always consisted of fall clothes and it was still hot and sunny out (fashion knows no boundaries…).

Regardless of what you’ll be shopping for in terms of school supplies, there are still some beauty must-haves that are great for stocking up on. As part of the Beauty United program with P&G, CoverGirl make-up pro Veronica Chu and Pantene consulting stylist Justin German developed back-to-school tips and tricks incorporating fall’s hottest trends using products from CoverGirl, Pantene, Olay and Venus.

CC cream

Time crunch in the morning? Slap on some of Olay’s Total Effects 7 CC Cream, which is designed to reduce the look of pores and uneven skin tone to reveal flawlessly beautiful skin in one simple step. It’s also quite sheer, so you can really let that young skin breath and shine through while providing coverage and moisture.  Pair it with some mascara and a lip colour, like CoverGirl’s LashBlast Volume and CoverGirl’s lipstick in Eternal Ruby, for a perfect back-to-school look.

Want something different for this school year?  Take a tip from Veronica Chu:

“Experiment with colour! Instead of basic black eyeliner, try one in purple or copper from the COVERGIRL Ink It! line – with a wide range of colours, the long-wearing formula stays on all day with no fading or creasing.  A great way to add a pop of colour without wearing too much eye makeup.” – Veronica Chu

After months of swimming, tanning, and sweating, I’m sure your hair needs a reboot.  Add some moisture back to your locks with Pantene Pro-V’s Daily Moisture Renewal shampoo and conditioner, which cleanses and hydrates hair for an all-day moisturized feel.

As for styling, Justin German has you covered.

“Time saver tip! Braid hair at night after applying a leave-in conditioner while it’s still damp.  In the morning, break down the braid and spray Pantene Root Reboot Dry Shampoo at the roots, adding volume and texture for on-trend undone, dropped out waves.” – Justin German

Be you: Make Up For Ever releases limited-edition Jamie Chung + Andreja Pejic palettes

title mufe

Parisian makeup brand Make Up For Ever wants you to be you this summer.

If you’ve been to Sephora recently, you most likely would have seen the Make Up For Ever set ups around the store featuring actress/fashion blogger Jamie Chung and renowned transgender model Andreja Pejic.  The set ups are part of a campaign which promotes individuality and self-expression.

The campaign, titled “Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You.” brings to life today’s changing faces of beauty, encouraging everyone, everywhere to redefine beauty, explore, and celebrate the freedom of self-expression.  The campaign launched on July 16 and includes in-store activations and events at Sephora, as well as two limited-edition palettes curated by Pejic and Chung, as well as a transformation-centric social media challenge, where users can win a personalized eyeshadow palette featuring images of their winning looks, in addition to $500 in Make Up For Ever products.

Jamie kit

Us bloggers were offered to choose between the two palettes to review. Although Pejic’s palette was more appealing to me, I chose to go with Chung’s palette, since the four shades aren’t ones I would usually gravitate to. Each palette retails for C$56 at Sephora and feature four of their Artist Shadows housed in an autographed tin. Andreja Pejic’s palette features more bronzey plum shades, whereas Jamie Chung’s palette houses greys and blues.  Since these are full-size Artist Shadows, the $54 price tag is a steal, considering that one of them will cost you $24.

Shadow 1 Shadow 2

If you haven’t tried Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadows yet, they are very pigmented and blendable.  Each colour in both of these palettes is incredibly wearable and perfect additions to any makeup collection. You can easily take the shadows from day to night depending on how you choose to wear them.

If you haven’t visited a Sephora store yet, check out the campaign in stores until August 26.

Also, don’t forget to enter my Freshii giveaway!

Will you picking up a limited edition palette?
