A sheer wash of colour: OPI Infinite Shine Soft Shades

TITLE

As much as I love bold colour on my nails, sometimes I want to keep things soft and neutral.

In addition to their regular line of polishes and limited edition collections, nail giant OPI releases their Soft Shades line every year, which give you those delicate, soft colours that are suitable for just about any occasion.

polishes

In case you aren’t familiar with their Infinite Shine system, it’s a three-step process consisting of a base coat, colour, and a top coat.  It’s essentially OPI’s version of the at-home, no-curing-needed gel manicure.  And, just like how they recently released a line of colours exclusive to this collection, they also released some staple Soft Shades colours to join in.

These exclusive colours were released this summer and I received about three handfuls of them.  Unfortunately one of the bottles smashed in the package (Wild Blue Yonder, I’m looking at you), thus getting the colour all over some of the bottles (and slicing my finger open in the process), so bear with the swatches below.

Patience Pays Off Purpletural Emotion To Be Continued Eternally Turquoise SagelessBeauty Follow Your Bliss Lavendurable Non-stop white Pearl of Wisdon The Sun Never Sets Bee Mine Forever Go to Grayt Lengths Silver on Ice Enter the Golden Era You're Blushing Again The Beige of Reason

Let me tell you, it ain’t easy swatching 11 shades in a reasonable amount of time (my poor nails), but it really does give you a good look at the colours.  My faves from the collection are definitely Bee Mine Forever, The Sun Never Sets, Lavendurable, and Patience Pays Off. All the shades had amazing colour payoff, except for The Beige of Reason, which I would totally skip since it’s so sheer (hey, if you’re going to pay that much for a polish — these retail for more than the standard OPI polishes — make it an opaque one), other than that, the rest of them are amazing.

Since these are part of the Infinite Shine line, it is recommended to use the base and top coats (Step 1 and 3), however, you can wear these as a normal polish.  The special base and topcoats are supposed to make the polishes last longer but I don’t really find there is a huge difference on my nails.

What shade will you be picking up?

Smile bright: Arm & Hammer Dental Truly Radiant Dental collection

A&H TITLE I’m fortunate that I get to travel quite a lot. Whether it’s for work, this blog, or just for fun, I feel like I’m jetting off somewhere every month (I’ve literally been on more planes than buses this year). With that being said, I’ve learned to have always have a travel toiletry bag handy; something I can just grab and throw in my suitcase and not have to worry if I forgot something (packing toiletries is the worst!).

A must for any trip (and just life in general) is a toothbrush and toothpaste. For the past little while I’ve been using Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Rejuvenating Toothpaste and Spinbrush Truly Radiant Manual Toothbrush in Extra White, both of which are new this year. I used to have really bad teeth, and after two years of braces in high school, I make sure to take care of my teeth since I don’t want to get cavities (who does?!) and having a nice smile is pretty mandatory when you have a beauty blog.

brushhead toothpaste

This particular toothpaste is great because its clinically proven to whiten teeth in just five days and goes beyond whitening to clean and strengthen tooth enamel. As a finishing touch, your mouth feels fresh and cool, perfect for those final summer days.

I recently just got back from a weekend in Toronto and I obviously packed these guys to take along for the ride. I have a regular ritual that I do before I travel which includes self-tanning, dieting, and waxing. White teeth is obviously a must too, since you never who who you’ll meet. I’ve never really been picky about toothbrushes before, but I’ve been using this particular one since the beginning of the year. The Spinbrush Truly Radiant Manual Brush is the only manual brush with a rotating head designed for a deep clean. The elongated bristles help to clean hard-to-reach places, and best of all, rotates as you brush to blast away plaque. The extra white brush uses whitening bristles and a specially designed whitening cup to enhance stain removal (oh hi, coffee and wine!).

Brushing shopping

I know it’s kind of a random topic to talk about, but seriously dental hygiene is so important, no matter who you are and if you’re into cosmetics or not. As I result, I want to gift someone a whiter smile by winning the Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Dental Collection, consisting of the Rejuvenating Toothpaste and Spinbrush Truly Radiant Manual Toothbrush in Extra White. Giveaway is open to Canadian residents and ends on September 25, 2015. Enter via the Rafflecopter below.  Good luck and smile bright :).

Dress destress: The WSO presents Dust off the Dress

title

We all have one.  You know that dress that is just sitting in your closet with nowhere to go? Whether it’s a bridesmaid dress that you know you’re never going to wear again, a sequin dress that is only appropriate on New Years Eve, that fab find you got at H&M but is just too fancy to wear anywhere other than a formal event which costs $250 a ticket, or your grad dress that you literally wore for an hour before your parents left and you changed into something shorter and more revealing?  Yeah, we all have that dress. The one you never thought you would get the chance to wear again.

In an event that would literally appeal to women everywhere, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is having an event later this month which will have women everywhere pulling out that item that’s full of dust, whether it be in the back of your closet or in the laundry room closet of your parent’s place.

Dust off the Dress is taking place on September 18, 2015 after the season opener at the Centennial Concert Hall as part of their Soundcheck program. I’m actually new to the program myself but it sounds totally awesome.  If you are under 30 or a full-time student, you can attend the symphony at a discounted price, but attend some free events (like Dust off the Dress) that they hold throughout the season.

Dust off the Dress the largest event they hold as part of the program and is free and for Soundcheck members only with the purchase of a concert ticket.  Essentially it’s like a really cool afterparty for Soundcheckers, where the WSO invites them to pull out that dress (or suit) and rock it once again at the concert and the party after.  There’s live music, h’ordeuvres, mingling with WSO musicians, Maestro Alexander Micklethwate, and the concert’s guest artist, Tianwa Wang.  The Aveda Institute (where I get my hair done) will also be on site with a pop-up beauty bar.

Membership in the Soundcheck program is free and members can buy tickets for $17 per concert.  Soundcheckers can bring one guest for $29 or buy a season pass for $85.

I’ll be there that Friday night (I’m still deciding on which dress I want to wear), and I want to gift a pair of tickets to the concert and event to a lucky Winnipeg reader. All you have to do is Tweet me, leave a comment on my Facebook page, or in the comments below what dress you would wear.  Winner will be chosen on Wednesday, September 17, 2015.

What dress would you wear to Dust off the Dress?
