Wickedly beautiful: Halloween nails from Broadway Nails

Title Still stumped on what you want to be this Halloween?

Halloween is one of my favourite holidays ever, but although I enjoyed the festivities more as a child (who doesn’t like getting candy from strangers), I’ll still dress up, even though I’m an adult.  I also buy my dog a Halloween costume every year as well (in fact, I’m going as my dog this year for Halloween… #crazydoglady).

Like Christmas, decorations pop up early and even though you can only technically get away with wearing a costume for a few days, Broadway Nails has a way for you to get into the spirit early (no pun intended).

Available in six different designs, their Press-On Manicure Designs are the glammest way to celebrate Halloween, even if it’s still a week away. They came out with these last year as well, and I always love sporting them in the days leading up to Halloween so I can be more into the spirit (it’s been a busy month, I just need a little reminder every time I look down that Halloween is around the corner). Some of the designs are repeats from last year, like Broomstick (the one with the spider webs) and Haunting (the medley of ghosts, candy corn, etc.), but my ultimate fave from the collection is definitely Fright Night, which has spiders, glitter, Trick or Treat motifs, and iridescent nails (which is new for 2015).

mask Designs

Each pack comes with 24 press-on nails in 12 different sizes, a prep pad and mini file and are safe on nails. Application is super easy, just find the nail that fits your natural one, remove the backing and press it on. Best part is that they stay on for up to 10 days.

I’ve used these many times in the past and Broadway Nails still continues to be my favourite press-on brand.  These ones are quite long, so I find them annoying to text, type, take out contacts, basically do anything in life with. But, they look so pretty, so I can’t complain too much (#beautybloggerproblems). Some of the designs are very Halloween, so you will definitely have to sport them before the holiday, however there are a few designs that can be worn any time of the year.  They also offer just a plain black version as part of the regular line, which are shorter (thus more versatile).

black nails

Get your claws on these fast, there’s about a week left to wear them!

Have you tried Broadway Nails? What are you doing with your nails for Halloween?

Passport perfect: The Body Shop Spa of the World collection

The Body Shop title

Who wants to go on a trip around the world?

As much as I would love to give away free trips like water, you can take a hypothetical visit all over the globe with The Body Shop’s new Spa of the World collection.

The Body Shop has explored every corner of the world to discover ingredients known for their rarity and precious effects on the skin.  The collection, which features tons of products, including moisturizers, scrubs, polishes, massage oils, and more, is intended to relax, rejuvenate, and add bliss to your life. Products include purifying and firming clays, sensorial and luxury oils, and refining natural scrubs and creams to calm, hydrate skin and smooth.

The whole point of this collection is to turn your bathroom into a spa, due to the professional-quality products and the packaging (it’s more luxurious than the typical Body Shop line).

I received a bevy of products, including a couple of their body butters, scrubs, bath salts, and firming lotions.

Lotions

Reading through the press pack, it seems like all the products give their own benefits. When I first received the products, I thought they would all do the same thing. A cream is a cream, right?  Well, there’s a reason this line is based around the world, as no country is the same.

Here are some the products I received and the benefits of each..

Himalayan Charcoal Body Clay – SRP $22

An Asian beauty secret, charcoals used to draw out impurities from the skin and remove up to thousands of times its own mass in toxins. Lather onto skin using either your hands or the Body Mask Brush (sold separately) and then let dry for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water for radiant skin.

African Ximenia Scrub – SRP $30

In Africa, the Ximenia tree is known the “tree of life”. This body scrub gently exfoliates to leave skin gleamingly smooth.

Japanese Camellia Cream – SRP $35

The oil of the Camellia flower has been used by women since the 8th century to gently soften and moisturize the skin. This velvety body cream leaves skin silky soft and slightly fragranced.

Dead Sea Salt Scrub – SRP $30

Dead Sea salt is known for its high mineral content and the coarseness of its crystals, resulting in a scrub that will transform your skin. Massage vigorously over damp skin for ultimate rejuvenation.

Moroccan Rhassoul Body Clay – SRP $22

Who wouldn’t want to turn their bathroom into a Moroccan Hammam? Rhassoul, the mineral-rich clay which has long been used by Moroccan women to firm skin, tightens as it dries to give instant firmness to skin. Apply a thin layer, wait for it to dry, and then rinse to get a skin-tightening effect.

Hawaiian Kukui Cream – SRP $35

Exposed to the sun for generations, Hawaiian women use kukui oil to nurture their skin. Incredibly moisturizing, it restores skin suppleness and leaves skin nourished and glowing.

Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath – SRP $20

A relaxing powder to milk bath, this skin-softening milk and honey bath is known as a beauty ritual used by Cleopatra in ancient Egypt. Once you pour a scoop of this magic elixir into running water, the scent will transport you into a state of relaxation. For the most luxurious bath, use five scoops under running water and swirl until dissolved.

Products

Also included in this line are massage oils, body brushes, and a massager. There is also a gift set with five items that retails for $99.

Overall, I love this collection. As soon as I received it, I noted how different it was from other Body Shop items.  Not only is the packaging more luxurious, but the products are just so creamy and decadent that you’ll be spending a lot of time in the bathroom… or shall I say, “spathroom” :p.

Smooth it out: Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation + Concealer

Title

If there is one thing in my makeup regime I just can’t live without, it’s foundation.  Now, I’m more of a liquid kinda gal, medium to full coverage preferably. It’s also one of the few items I will splurge on, no double thinking it, foundation is an important step in any makeup application.

I have a few foundations (read: seven of them) on rotation right now, one of which is the new Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin foundation.  I’m don’t know as much about Maybelline foundations as I do other brands, but I understand that SuperStay has been out for a while and has quite the cult following.  As a result, when you release something to part of a family that’s already popular, expectations are going to be quite high.

Better Skin, which is available in 12 shades, promises a long wear that improves skin every minute you’re wearing it.  It’s supposed to brighten, smooth, and make your complexion more even. It has micro-flex technology and the antioxidant power of Actyl-C, which if you’re not a scientist, you probably have no clue what that is. Well lucky for you, dear reader, I Googled it for you, and it’s apparently a stable form of vitamin C, and is often used to clear blemishes. This foundation is marketed to reduce the appearance of spots, bumps, dullness, and redness to give you a brighter, smoother, and more-even skin. For the best results, obviously wear it often.

There is also a concealer in the range, which also contains Actyl-C, and is supposed to instantly provide all-day flawless correction.  It also helps to visibly reduce the appearance of dark circles, spots, and imperfections in just three weeks.

I’ve been using the foundation off and on since I got it, maybe two months ago.  The concealer, on the other hand, gets regular use since I love the doe-foot applicator.  This is the second Maybelline foundation I have in regular rotation, the other being Fit Me! Matte + Powerless foundation, which I love due to its matte finish. Better Skin is very dewy on me, and although it does last throughout the day, there is some noticeable wear by the end of eight hours. I also find my makeup tends to melt a little under my eyes, so I think setting it with a powder (both the foundation and concealer) would make a difference in the longevity of my makeup.

Swatched

Has it improved my skin tone?  I have pretty good skin already so it’s hard to say.  I also haven’t been using it every day for weeks on end, which I’m sure is its intended use. I am very curious to hear though from someone who has tried that to see if it actually does what it claims.

Overall this foundation is alright. If I had to choose between this one and Fit Me! Matte + Poreless, I would go with Fit Me! hands down. It’s a better coverage and lasts longer on my skin. Better Skin is still an okay foundation, but there are definitely better ones out there.. no pun intended.

Have you tried Maybelline’s SuperStay Better Skin foundation? What were your thoughts?
