Colour Pop: Kiss Polish Pop and Summer The Collection Press-On nails

Colour Pop title

When it comes to summer nails, it’s no lie that I love neon.

Bright and bold is for summer and neutral and subdued is for winter, it’s as easy as that.  So when I saw the new Kiss Polish Pop and The Collection gel press-on nails, I was like I have to have them and I have to have them now.

One of my absolute favourite polish colours for summer is Orly Glowstick, a neon yellow/green colour that is so bright, you can spot it across the room. Although it certainly doesn’t need to be jazzed up, it was the first colour I thought of when I spotted the tropical Polish Pop by Kiss, which is a fun mix of colourful accents that coordinate with any polish, enhancing nails to create a unique one-of-a-kind look.

Polish Pop contains both nail decals (both translucent and non-translucent) and stickers that really jazz up any manicure.

For those who like keeping it simple, Kiss also offers the same designs in their popular gel press-on line.  Called The Collection, there are various designs for summer, but I received the two matching designs from the Polish Pop line. From what I understand, The Collection is basically a collection designed by social influencers and nail art experts.  I’ve used their press-on gel nails before and they are my go-to for press-ons.  They include both the glue and the press-on backing, so you have two options to make them stick.  I prefer the glue, as I find they last longer on my nails and you can just re-glue them if they fall off.

If you are a nail girl, you have to look into this line. Summer is already half over (tear..) but your nails can still be on-point.

Have you tried Kiss Polish Pop or The Collection?

Summer smells: Three fragrances for the hot weather

Perfume title

So if you are like me, you categorize your perfumes by feelings, events, and seasons.  For instance, I’ll only wear certain scents during the winter or summer.  I have date night perfumes, vacation perfumes, Friday night out scents, etc.

Although I have lots of summery perfumes that I’ve been sporting over the years, I’ve been circulating three in particular that have been my summer crushes this past month.

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Mod Noir

This guy (C$110 at Sephora) came out in June of this year and is definitely a classic scent. This airy floral fragrance opens with gardenias, greens and creamy musks and is classified as bold, modern and unique.

The packaging is definitely the selling feature for me, as it’s housed in lacquered black and matte frosted glass; modern and minimalistic. Very simple, but yet attractive, much like Marc Jacobs’ line in general. This fragrance is definitely the most mature of the three and to me it bears resemblance to his last scent, Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream, as I find them to be very similar.

Vera Wang

Vera Wang Hippie Princess

If you are more into fruity and careless, try Vera Wang’s new addition to the Princess line, Hippie Princess (C$49/30ml).  Topnotes include red mango, white freesia, and apple blossom. It also has lotus flower, apricot nectar, jasmine petals, blonde woods, pink musk, and vanilla.

This is perfect for a beach day, a festival, or BBQ. It’s fruity and fresh, making it perfect for daytime or everyday wear.  Best of all, I love the heart-shaped bottle with the signature crown top, which you can double as a ring (which it also includes underneath the spray). Out of the three scents, this one is my favourite hands -own since you can wear it really for any occasion, plus the name is so summery.

KAty Perry

Katy Perry Mad Potion

If you are a fan of celebrity fragrances, this one is for you.

I’ve always had a penance for celebrity scents, so when I received Katy Perry’s new fragrance Mad Potion (released this month at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada), I knew I would like it.  And then I smelled it and it was love at first whiff.

If you don’t like candy-sweet scents, then you probably won’t like this one.  Mad Potion is rich with vanillas from around the world, with a hint of amber and jasmine thrown in for good luck. Top notes include Tahitian vanilla orchid, fresh and crisp apple musk, and sweet white peony. The middle and bottle notes also contain more vanilla, such as Madagascar bourbon vanilla and Mexican vanilla bean absolute.

If you are a fan of Britney Spears’ Fantasy perfume, you will love this one as it’s very cotton candy sweet.  Definitely more of a younger scent.

Let’s try this again… Sally Hansen reformulates Miracle Gel topcoat + new colours

SH title

Pssst, did you hear? Sally Hansen has reformulated their Miracle Gel topcoat and released some new colours to go with it.

I was fortunate to try out Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel line before it launched last year, which is billed as “gel without the light”.  This two-step process (the colour and the topcoat) promises up to 14 days of colour and shine, with an easy removal process. Best of all, unlike its legit gel buddies, these guys don’t need the LED light to set the colour.

A bunch of brands have come out with their own versions of the two-step, no-light-needed gel polish.  This isn’t a true gel manicure, since you need that special machine to set the colour, but I’ve been impressed with some lines, and others not so much. Unfortunately Sally Hansen was one of them.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the colours, in fact, I’ve always been a huge fan of Sally Hansen’s polishes in general, since the array of shades is vast and I love the brush (probably one of the best nail polish brushes there is). My issue is that the Miracle Gel line only stays probably two days max on my nails before it starts to chip.  Sure, I can say that maybe it’s my nails, which of course may be the issue, however, when I try other “faux gel” lines, like Revlon or OPI, I have no issue with longevity.

Polishes topcoat

And thus, this is why I was excited to try out their new topcoat. I first saw it at the London Drugs Fall beauty preview this past June in Vancouver and even told the ladies at the Sally Hansen/Revlon booth my qualms with the product.  This new 2X top coat promises two-times the volume and shine on your nails. Shine I get, but volume?  Shouldn’t it be wear time?  I guess the idea behind volume is that is creates a thicker nail, like a true gel manicure.  One of the reasons I love gel manis (with the light) is that my nails feel thicker.

I tried out a bunch of their new colours from the Gel Boho Chic and Tribal Vibe collections, and although I loved the shine, I have to say that this new topcoat didn’t deliver… at least for me. I didn’t get more volume, although I do have to say that my nails did look very shiny, more shinier than the original topcoat hands down.  As for chipping?  Yes, my nails still chipped a day after I applied most of the polishes (le sigh…). Note, I also applied these colours without a base coat as I wanted to try them out as they are supposed to worn.

Maybe one day this line will work for me, but in the meantime that won’t stop me from wearing the polishes.  Regardless of the colour you choose, you don’t have to use the matching topcoat.  In fact, I’m curious to try a different “gel” topcoat from another brand to see if the colours last longer on me, or even a polish from a different line to see if the topcoat lasts longer with those shades.  Who knows, it may not even be the topcoat…

Have you tried Sally Hansen Miracle Gel? What were your thoughts?
