Leather & polka dots: fall outfit staples

Title #ad Although we did get hit with hot and sunny weather at the end of September, here in Winnipeg I think we all know it’s officially fall. But that’s okay. For me, when the leaves start changing and the weather gets colder all I want are sweaters, cute coats, boots, and pumpkin spice lattes.

Fall is my favourite time of the year, and with that comes fall fashion. I am all about black. Black leather leggings, black boots, black coats, etc. For this particular outfit, I wanted to keep it classy, but still cute. I paired these black faux-leather leggings with black moto boots, a black and a white polka dot blouse layered underneath this black long-sleeve crop top. To top it all off, I threw on my new cropped moto jacket (faux leather of course).

For accessories, I kept it simple with a charm necklace (got this ages ago) and the best accessory of all, my smile. I don’t usually rock red lipstick, but I felt the pop of bright, bold colour totally worked in my favour with this look. Red lipstick is great for making your teeth appear whiter, which I’ve also gotten extra help from courtesy of the Colgate* Optic White line.

Regimen blurred smile blurred

I received the Colgate* Optic White Toothbrush + Built-In Whitening Pen about a month ago and have been using it for the past few weeks to get a brighter smile. Available now at mass retailers, the toothbrush has a whitening pen on the other end, so after brushing you can go the extra mile with the stay-on gel formula that adheres to teeth. Retailing for C$16.99 (SRP), the toothbrush +pen provides effective whitening, affordability and convenience all from one product. The toothbrush is specially designed with stain removers and polishing bristles to help remove stains, whereas the gel in the built-in pen contains hydrogen peroxide, which provides effective whitening beyond surface stains. My new dental routine also includes the Colgate* Optic White Platinum Express White Anticavity Toothpaste (SRP C$5.18) and the Colgate* Optic White WhiteSeal Mouthwash (SRP C$5.38 for 250 ml). Don’t forget to use the mouthwash before the pen!

Although fall is all about covering up and staying warm, I still love showing off my smile, something that’s easy to do with a little help from some red lipstick and *Colgate.

Feeling confident: New York Color 8Hr CityProof Extended Wear Lipgloss

Title

When it comes to glosses, I’m more of a fan of just skipping them altogether.  I’ve never been a fan of having that sticky texture on my lips, but with lipsticks being more dry and matte lately, sometimes you need a gloss to jazz things up.

As part of their CityProof collection, New York Color has released some glosses that will keep you shining all day. Based off the city that never sleeps, these glosses are billed to give you an eight-hour wear, keeping your lips shiny from the time you wake up in your Upper West Side brownstone to your stroll through Central Park to dinner in the Meatpacking District (okay, one can wish…).

Available in 10 different shades, the CityProof Extended-Wear Lip Gloss is billed to have a non-sticky formula that provides high shine and rich colour with serious staying power for eight hours.

Swatched Wand

I received five different shades from the collection, and although I do find them to be a bit sticky, it’s due to the stickiness that makes them last longer on the lips. These glosses feature a doe-foot applicator, making them easy to apply. For a MSRP of $2.99, you can’t go wrong with these guys.  The colour is sheer, but perfect for layering them over a lipstick or just on your lips for a sheer wash of colour.

Do they last eight hours?  No, but with that being said, I do still find a sticky residue at the end of the eight-hour period.  So maybe the colour doesn’t last that long, but there’s still product on my lips.  But then again, I mean I don’t mind applying this gloss over and over throughout the day.

selfie It may not last eight hours, but it’s definitely longer than a New York minute.

Feeling revitalized: The Body Shop Oils of Life collection

oils title

It’s November, meaning your life is probably going to get a lot more crazier as the holiday season approaches. Between busyness and the dreaded winter cold, your skin is going to be going through a lot of things for the next few months, making it super important to ensure it gets the TLC it needs.

The Body Shop released a new skincare line a few months back called the Oils of Life collection, a new daily life-infusing skincare range to revitalize skin, replenish nutrition, revive radiance, and visibly reduce signs of aging. Every product in the line contains an expert blend of three exceptional seed oils from Egypt, Chile and China, known for their supreme abilities to repair and revitalize skin.

Apparently seed oils are a thing now. Because seeds give life to new plants, that makes them one of the most concentrated sources of essential nutrients on Earth.  Cold-pressed to their pure form, The Body Shop preserved their potent properties to ensure the utmost affinity to skin.  Each product contains Black Cumin Seed Oil (known for its concentration in antioxidants) from the Egyptian Nile Valley, Camellia Seed Oil (natural rich in nutritive oleic acids) from the evergreen trees of China, and Rosehip Seed Oil (rich in Omega 3 and 6) from the Andes Foothills of Chile.

This collection includes four products (plus a face massager).

oils

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Essence Lotion (C$22)

A bi-phase oil (oil and water) formula, this is the first step after cleansing, a daily lotion that provides instant visible results while preparing and activating skin for the next steps in the routine.

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Facial Oil (C$44)

A daily facial oil that intensely revitalizes skin and visibly reduces signs of aging. Made from 99 per cent oils of natural origin, this lightweight oil effortlessly melts onto skin, leaving a silky soft, non-sticky finish. Apply one to two drops onto the face and neck and gently massage into skin morning and evening before applying a cream.

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Gel Cream (C$34)

A gel cream with illuminating micro-pearls. This gel cream is a lighter alternative to the cream version, which intensely revitalizes skin, leaving a fresh finish without a greasy feel. Apply morning and night.

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Cream (C$34)

A thicker cream than its gel counterpart, this also contains perfecting micro-pearls that effortlessly absorb into skin, leaving a light and comfortable finish without a greasy feel.  Skin feels nourished, suppler, and smoother.  After four weeks of usage signs of aging are supposed to appear reduced.

I’ve been using these products for the past week and although it’s too soon to tell of any difference, I do enjoy the complexion of my skin.  Usually with new face products I do have the tendency to break out, however, this stuff has been great on my skin so far.  I did include the SRPs on these products, however, The Body Shop constantly offers discounts on their products.  I would recommend this line; it’s very lightweight and I love the use of the oil products as I do find that they are great to add to your skincare regime.
