Bigger and better: CoverGirl Super Sizer Fibers mascara

COVERGIRL TITLE It’s no secret that I love CoverGirl’s mascaras. The drugstore brand consistently comes out with some amazing mascaras that rival even their most expensive luxury counterparts.

If I had to choose my favourite CoverGirl mascara, The Super Sizer would probably rank the highest. The brush on it is amazing and it really does lengthen and volumize your lashes. In fact, I’ve had my original tube so long that I completely ran it dry and was a bit sad to finally toss it. But that’s alright because CoverGirl has come out with a new formula in the line.

Enter Super Sizer Fibers mascara. According to CoverGirl, this beauty will deliver 400 per cent more volume to get the look of long, dark and amplified lashes. The formula contains built-in fibers for a fake lash look.

I love fiber mascara since they typically make your lashes look longer since they add little pieces of cotton (or fibres) on your lash, thereby extending it. Fiber mascara is hot right now, but most companies offer it as a duo. You get the mascara plus a tube of the fibers to coat on. First you apply the mascara, then a layer of the fibers, then finally the mascara again to seal it all up. As a result, you really do get long, luscious lashes.

Since this is a two-in-one, you save time by just grabbing this one product. Often I would save my fibres mascara for a special event, since they tend to be pricey and time consuming to apply. Now I can use this everyday, which is awesome since it makes your lashes look so long.

Just the original, this mascara is awesome. I wouldn’t say you get 400 per cent more volume, but lashes look long and fabulous. Also, unlike other fiber mascaras out there, this one doesn’t leave a mess under your eyes (so annoying).

I didn’t think they could top the original, but CoverGirl nailed it with this one. Plus, at the drugstore price point, it’s super affordable to pick up compared to other fiber mascaras out there and it does an amazing job.

If you’re in the market for a new mascara (really, who isn’t?), pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed.

Are you excited to try CoverGirl Super Sizer Fibers mascara?

Jewel tones: Make Up For Ever Artist Palette 3

MUFE title palette

It’s no joke that Make Up For Ever’s Artist shadows are bomb.  I have a few of their singles and a couple of their palettes and the pigmentation on them is amazing with the variety of finishes making them perfect for any makeup enthusiast.

Now the obvious downside with their shadows is the price point. At C$25 a pop they don’t come cheap. This is where the palettes come in. The French brand recently released the Artist Palette Volume 3 – Florals (C$52 at Sephora), which features nine shades that are spring and summer appropriate.

The first thing you’ll notice when you open this palette is the shade range. There are some fluorescent blues, lavenders, a pink (which also doubles as a blush), and some neutrals. Because of this, you have a variety of different looks you can do with this gorgeous palette.

Closed palette Open palette

If you haven’t tried Make Up For Ever’s eyeshadows before, each shade delivers pigmented colour that blends naturally. They have an advanced gel-powder formula infused with ultra fine pigments that leave lids saturated with colour. The shades in this palette are organized in trios so you can creates three different looks – emerald, nude and orchid. This palette also features an illustrated step-by-step application technique leaflet to help you get inspired.

Although the nudes or purples would be my obvious choice in eye looks, I wanted to do the palette justice and dive into those gorgeous blues. It was love at first sight when I saw the second colour down on the left side, D-236 Lagoon Blue, a bright metallic teal colour that just reminds me of the gorgeous waters of Cancun. I knew I had to cover my lids in that shade and then smoke it out with the darker blue right on top. What I ended up with was a gorgeous night-out look that was easy to create and took minimal effort (just a lot of blending).
Final 1

Steps 1. Lay down a blue cream shadow to act as a primer. I used MAC Pro Longer Waterproof Colour Stick in Royally Blue. Don’t worry about making this clean as we are going to be covering it anyways.

2. With a flat shader brush, apply D-236 over the lid area trying to keep the colour within the crease.

3. With a fluffy crease brush, lightly work ME-230 Peacock Blue in the crease to smudge it out.

4. With the cream colour, I-528 Pearl, apply this on your brow bone to highlight.

5. Curl your lashes and apply mascara and falsies. Then, for the bottom lash line, use a blue eyeliner (such as Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Waterproof Liner in I-32) along your lower lash line, then with your finger smudge it out. Apply a coat of mascara to your bottom lashes and you’re set!

Final 2

I chose to go with a pink nude lip to keep the focus on the eyes. I love how this look turned out, although you definitely need a special event to go to to pull it off (or a nightclub). Since the blue is so sharp, if you have brown eyes, this look will be amazing on you.

As always, the shadows were a dream to work with and if you love the colours are much as I do, you need to pick this palette up.

A twisted tale: MAC Pro Beyond Twisted Lash mascara

MAC TITLE When I saw MAC’s new mascara, I just knew I had to get my hands.. er lashes on it.

What really sets the Pro Beyond Twisted Lash mascara apart from the rest is the brush.  Well, to be really concise, the wand. This mascara offers a flexible wand that can bend, twist and moved up to 90-degrees. Okay, what?

brush

Ever find yourself twisting the mascara wand to reach the tiniest of lashes?  Well this wand is fully adjustable, meaning that you can contort it – and it stays that way – to reach every single lash.  The brush itself is thin and long, meaning that you can get the lash right at the root.

As for the actual lash formula, the mascara is lightweight and aimed to give you definition, volume, lift and curl. MAC says that this mascara is flake resistant, however, I did experience some flaking with it, as well as smudging.

coats of mascara final

This is the first MAC mascara I’ve ever tried (I know, hard to believe). I’ve never really heard anything stellar about their mascaras, so I’ve always chosen to go with other brands that have gotten better reviews. I love the concept of the mascara and when I saw the wand I thought this would be my new favourite, however, it didn’t really make my lashes look any better than other mascaras I use.  Since the wand is so thin though, I like using it for my lower lashes and as a second mascara to really comb through each lash and plump them up.  I have medium-length lashes, however, I can really see this working amazing for shorter lashes due to the wand size.

MAC Pro Beyond Twisted Lash retails for C$22.
