Naturally smooth: New hair removal innovations from Nair

Title The terms “shed that winter coat” are definitely applicable in more ways than one.

Like lots of girls, the need to shave one’s legs isn’t really a top priority in the wintertime.  I mean, who is going to see my legs, right? But with summer coming up and my non-stop shopping addiction for cute clothes, I need to get these gams back in shape.

I’m usually a shaving girl, but once in a while I’ll wax my legs since the hair stays off way longer. New from Nair is the Argan Oil Ultimate Roll On Body Wax, Nair Argan Oil Ultimate Roll On Face Wax, Nair Cire Divine Argan Oil With Pain Reducer.

I’ve tried the Nair Candy Apple wax before and loved it so I was excited to try these guys out. I received the roll-on body wax, as well as the Divine Argan Oil with Pain Reducer.  So naturally, I called up my best friend and was like “grow your leg hair out and let’s wax them while watching the Kardashians” last Sunday.

So what sets these products aside are the fact that they are made with Moroccan Argan Oil, which has been all the rage for the past few years.  This oil is known for its moisturizing and nourishing qualities for the skin (and hair).  The new Nair formulations are made with a  breakthrough resin wax technology that adheres to the hair, but not the skin and can be washed away with just soap and water, without leaving a sticky residue.  As for the pain reducing wax, it contains a unique pro-sensitive complex that reduces the uncomfortable sensations associated with waxing.

roll on Top

Since we had two different products to try out, I did one leg using the roll on and the other using the wax.  The roll-on comes with some reusable strips, whereas the wax dries fast, allowing you to pull it right off.

The Roll-On Moroccan Oil Rinseable Wax come in a handheld applicator that you roll on your legs.  The results are billed to last up to eight weeks, and the multi-position roll-on allows for a precise, even application.  The wax is infused with orange blossom and includes 10 reusable cloth strips.

I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so I wasn’t too worried about how much it would hurt. This one did hurt more than the pull-off wax one but I found it more convenient as opposed to the straight-up wax.  You microwave this product for 25 seconds and then it’s good to go. For the most part it took off the hair easily and best of all, was super easy to use. Between the two of us, we used up all the wax, but I would say you can get a couple uses out of it depending on the texture of the hair and how much of it you have.

wax

As for the peel-off wax, this guy comes in a giant tub with a – and I know it’s not called this – giant popsicle stick to apply the wax.  First you heat it up in the microwave for about two minutes and then apply the wax on your leg and pull it off.  This stuff was definitely more messy than the roll-on, and although I didn’t find it hurt at all really, it didn’t really do the best job of removing the hair.  With that being said, it did get some of the hair (surprising since you don’t really feel much), but if you are looking for something more heavy-duty (and easier to use/clean up), go with the roll on.

Overall, I was impressed by both of these products and I definitely recommend the roll on wax as opposed to the pull off one. If you wax your legs often, I would check it out.

Crazy for curls: Pureology Curl Complete line

Title

So it’s no surprise that my favourite haircare line is Purelogy.  I’ve been using this brand for years and have tried most of their formulas.

For those not in the know, Pureology is a salon brand that uses high-quality colour care products that enhance radiance, dramatically improve hair condition and respect the environment, while delivering longer-lasting hair colour. I’m usually not a hair snob when it comes to what’s in my shampoo. As long as my hair looks, and most importantly, feels healthy and smooth, I’m a happy camper.

The brand recently introduced a new line to their already impressive lineup of products (which includes their incredibly expensive – but amazing – Nano Works system), Curl Complete.

Curl Complete, which includes six different products, has a unique de-stressing formula with coconut oil and their exclusive AntiFade Complex that erases frizz, reduces breakage, revives shape and illuminates shine.

The star product in the line is the coconut oil, which for the past few years has gotten so much hype.  It’s basically good for your body in a variety of different ways.  Since we’re talking hair though, this formula reduces breakage, replenishes moisture and helps erase frizz.  It also revives shape and extends the life of curls and waves.

complete line

The line consists of:

  • Curl Complete Shampoo
  • Curl Complete Conditioner
  • Curl Complete Moisture Melt Masque – Deep conditioning to enhance definition and bounce.
  • Curl Complete Taming Butter- Leave-in styling cream instantly tames rebellious curls with frizz control, improved manageability and definition.
  • Curl Complete Uplifting Curl Treatment Styler – Light spray gel revives lifeless curls with enhanced definition and bounce without frizz.
  • Curl Complete Curl Extend Primer and Refresher – Dual formula locks in moisture and shape for lasting frizz control and curl memory

I received the entire line to review, but since I was born with naturally straight hair, I gave it to a curly-haired bestie to try out.

Jessica has thick hair with spiral curls. Usually she uses a cleanser shampoo on her hair, and found that the line actually worked the best on her curls when she used her regular shampoo as opposed to the one in the line.  When she used the shampoo and conditioner she said her curls looked amazing the first day but then the next day her hair felt heavy and started to look greasy, and by the third day her hair was so greasy it was unmanageable (and she’s one of those girls who wash their hair once or twice a week).

jess

Overall, she loves the products the most.  When she uses her regular shampoo with the styling products, her hair doesn’t grease up as much and her curls look like how they would with a wand curler.

I have always found Pureology products to do wonders for my hair, so keep in mind that everyone has different hair texture.  Just because she found the shampoo to give her greasy hair, doesn’t mean that everyone will experience that.  Plus, this particular line is especially amazing since it offers to many different hair products to choose from.

Are you going to try Pureology’s Curl Complete line?

A clear canvas: Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizers

skin equalizers title

When it comes to foundation primers, I’m not really picky in what I’m looking for. I figure since it goes under my foundation — as in you don’t see it — then it doesn’t matter what it does or what it feels like, I just like having something there.

Then I tried Make Up For Ever’s new Step 1 Skin Equalizers. Released in March, these primers replace the HD Primers and not only transform skin’s texture, but also equalizes it to create the perfect canvas.

The French beauty brand has a primer for anyone, with 10 different formulas available (five that target texture concerns and five that target tone concerns). Mix and match, or use one to create a base that makes your foundation and makeup look more radiant and last longer.

Step 1 is a range that was developed to refine, smooth and even out makeup. Each primer has their exclusize Equalizer Complex that delivers three key actions: application (makeup goes on seamlessly), result (optimized colour and finish) and wear (longer staying power).

Essentially there’s a primer for everyone. Need to correct redness? Go with the green primer. Want to feel more hydrated? Go with the blue one. Just like their predecessors, the HD Primers, these guys are available in a variety of different colours that enhance your natural skin tone.

bottle tops

Unlike the HD Primers, these come in a 30ml squeeze tube, but a little goes a long way. I received two of them, the Hydrating Primer and Radiant Primer (AKA the blue one, which I also have in the HD line).

The Hydrating Primer is for dehydrated skin that tugs, looks wan and no longer holds makeup. It works by the H20 complex that intensely hydrates the skin thanks to hyaloronic acid and glycerin, but also witch hazel with its soothing virtues. It’s also enriched with rice powder that forms a protective film on the skin. As a result, the skin is replumpled, looks more transparent and glows naturally radiant. According to Make Up For Ever, 88 per cent of people that tried it felt their skin stays hydrated all day.

The Radiant Primer is for excess yellow or brown pigmentation, this guy neutralizes through colour complementarity. It contains a blend of Spectraflex pigments that corrects pigment-related disorders, permanent spots and brown shadows. The soft-focus complex unifies the complexion and reflects light. Since Im quite fair, it also neutralizes a slight excess of pink as well.

These guys retail for C$42 each, which is quite pricey for a primer (although I do find primers to be rather expensive in general). They are meant to be mixed and matched to create a perfect base custom to your skin tone. You can of course, just choose to use one (heck, two of them will run you $84). I have mixed both together and worn just the one, and I didn’t really notice a difference, but I have rather good skin to begin with.

before ansd after

I have seen these all over YouTube and other blogs and people have been raving about them. Like I said earlier, I’m not really a primer snob, but I have to say that these are great primers. Sometimes I feel like my foundation goes on a little oily with a different primer, I also have the tendency to have issues with my makeup lasting throughout the day. When I wear these underneath my foundation I feel like it adheres better to my skin, I don’t have an issue with shininess or oiliness, and best of all, my foundation lasts. It’s also quite comfortable; I don’t feel the foundation on my skin.

Overall, if you are in the market to try out a new primer, I would seriously consider these.  I just use a tiny drop of the stuff and apply it to my T-zone before applying my foundation; a little goes a long way.

Will you try out the new Step 1 primers and equalizers?
