Welcome to the jungle: Boobyball Paradise City swings into Winnipeg

title

Winnipeg had the wildest party of the year this past weekend.

Boobyball 2016 Paradise City swung into Fort Garry Place Saturday night for a colourful, wild soiree, all for a good cause. In case you haven’t read my post on what Boobyball is all about, it’s Rethink Breast Cancer’s signature event, held in four cities across Canada.

Toronto’s Boobyball was held last weekend, and Calgary (October 27) and Ottawa (October 28) are next on deck.  The event encourages party animals to take charge of their breast health and help raise funds for those affected by breast cancer. Since 2002, Boobyball has raised over $4 million dollars for Rethink Breast Cancer, and Toronto’s Boobyball alone last weekend raised more than $225,000.

This year was Winnipeg’s third Boobyball and they switched locations from last year.  Fort Garry Place was transformed from one of the city’s most elegant ballrooms to a colourful jungle. The experience started as soon as you crossed the skywalk from the Fort Garry Hotel with gorilla decals on the ground and jungle noises playing from hidden speakers.  The committee did an amazing job with decoration, as there was tons of faux animals, trees, and amazing lights that took partygoers from Winnipeg to the amazon.

Aside from transforming cold, rainy Winnipeg into Tarzan’s home, the best part of the night were all the activations from different sponsors. There was pineapple bowling from Boston Pizza, ice cream from Cornell Creme, tons of photo booths, a flash tattoo station from Topshop (the presenting sponsor), a manicure bar from Urban Oasis spa, a braid bar from The Loft, and so much more. Oh, and did I mention it was also open bar, tons of food, and you left with a totally cool gift bag? Oh, and there was also a real python that you could wrap around your shoulders and take photos with. No big deal.

The committee totally blew it out of the water this year. Although this is a charity event, it was definitely one of the wildest parties I’ve been to in Winnipeg and party goers were more than happy to play into the theme. There was tons of floral, cheetah print, and forest green sashaying around the dance floor.

Boobyball was launched in 2002 by a group of dedicated young women in support of their friend Sarah O’Regan who, at just 23 years old, was diagnosed with aggressive, advanced breast cancer. Fast-forward 15 years, and Boobyball is now one of the most coveted and high-profile fundraising events for young philanthropists in Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and Winnipeg.  As for Sarah? She’s a thriving mother of three.

Proceeds from the night go to Rethink Breast Cancer, which is the first-ever Canadian charity to bring bold, relevant awareness to the 40s and under crowd; foster a new generation of young and influential breast cancer supporters; infuse style into the cause; and, most importantly, respond to the needs of young women going through it.

Let me know if you attended a Boobyball across Canada this year!

All-purpose: BITE Beauty Multisticks for eyes, lips, and cheeks

bite-beauty-title

Multi-purpose products. As someone who loves getting a great deal, I always enjoy when beauty products perform multiple uses.  My desert island product has always been Rosebud Salve, since the petroleum jelly-like product is amazing for dry lips, mosquito bites, burns, pimples, dry skin, and more. I love having one product that does it all.

If you aren’t familiar yet with Bite Beauty, this Canadian brand available at Sephora, is known for their good-for-you ingredients. You can literally eat their lipsticks since there are no chemicals in the formula. Expanding on their highly popular lipsticks (I reviewed their Amuse Bouche lipsticks earlier this year), they have recently released a product called the Multistick, a cream product for lips, eyes, and cheeks.

multisticks

Available in 18 shades, the Multistick applies like a cream but wears like a powder. You apply the product, which comes in the same velvet packaging as their lipsticks, either straight from the tube or using a brush or your fingers. The silicone-free formula has 35 per cent powder in each bullet and it creates soft colour that’s blendable, breathable, and buildable.

There’s a wide range of colours, everything from nudes to pinks to violets to browns, so they really do target all skin colours and all uses. Bite Beauty was so kind and sent me all the shades, and although some are definitely more workable than others for my skintone, since they are targeted towards multiple uses, any shade can be workable. My favourites are the lighter shades, like Blondie (a peachy nude), Papaya (rose pink), Gelato (lilac), Brioche (plum brown), Lotus (baby pink), Creme Caramel (orange nude), and Praline (burnt orange), however, I found the darker shades still amazing for different uses.

The lighter ones I mentioned above I used for all three uses, eyes (either on their own or as a base), lips, or cheeks. Since all the colours blend out so amazing, you can use really any shade for the cheeks, even if you are super pale like me (just make sure to apply a little bit and blend!). I also have used some of the darker shades as eyeshadow in my crease; I would just apply the colour with my MAC 217 brush. Considering they are technically creams, they really do blend out to a powder formula.

swatched looks-2 look-1

If you are a fan of Bite’s Amuse Bouche lipsticks, I would definitely look into these as well. Even if you’re not, the fact that this product can be used for eyes, cheeks, and lips is amazing and would definitely be something I would recommend to add to your collection.  At C$28 a pop, they are a bit expensive, however, you’ll be getting a lot of wear with these (they are perfect for travel!).

I will note though that these are a bit thicker than a typical lipstick, so if you are buying one for that purpose, it may take some getting used to. They are very long lasting whether you apply them on your eyes, lips or cheeks.

Have you tried Bite Beauty’s Multistick yet? What were your thoughts?

Saturated colour: Mary Kay Cosmetics Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks

mk-title

I’ve never really been one for direct-sales brands. My mom used to order us Avon stuff as a kid, but being so impatient, I always wanted the order right. now.

I’m sure you can think of at least five direct-sales beauty brands as there are so many of them now, however, one of the most well-known is Mary Kay. The brand has been around for over 50 years and has 3.5 million independent beauty consultants in more than 35 countries around the world. The brand boasts cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, and more.

My first foray into Mary Kay was actually last week when I remembered I had a box of fall goodies sitting around that was sent to me a couple months back. They sent me some pretty impressive cosmetics, and a large amount of lipsticks.

New to the brand are the Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks, which give you lasting colour with a lip-cushioning gel comfort. Available in eight shades, they are non-drying, long-lasting and apply in a semi-matte finish.

lipsticks

The Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks are the first full-coverage lipstick by Mary Kay to utilize gel microsphere technology for rich colour that lasts for hours. They don’t dry out your lips and are extremely comfortable to wear. Application is also amazing, as they deliver saturated colour on one swipe.

Considering that I haven’t tried Mary Kay before and I’ve always thought it was more of a “mom brand”, I really liked these lipsticks. They sent me all eight shades, and although there are a few colours I wouldn’t necessarily wear, there were tons of on-trend shades that I can’t wait to bust out a little more.

As Mary Kay promises, the colour was very comfortable on the lips and it did last last a while on the lips. I did have to do some minor touch ups throughout the day after eating and drinking, but overall they held their colour quite well.

These babies retail for $18 USD each. You can browse them online, however, when you go to check out I guess it will pair you up with an independent beauty consultant closest to you.

If you are a Mary Kay user already, I would definitely look into trying some of these out. Are they different from any other lipstick out there? No. I have a ton of drugstore lipsticks already that are moisturizing in wear and apply pigmented. Mary Kay does have a bunch of cute stuff for fall and holidays though, so if you are interested in doing an order, definitely stock up with a few different items.

Are you a Mary Kay user? Have you tried their new Gel Semi-Matte lipsticks yet?

Please note, I was sent this product from PR. All opinions are my own.
