Crystal ball: Bite Beauty Crystal Creme Shimmer Lip Crayons

When it comes to lips, I mostly wear a matte finish.

With that being said, sometimes I like to switch it up and wear something with a little more pizazz. That’s where Bite Beauty’s new Crystal Creme Shimmer Lip Crayons come in.

Officially launching in stores this Friday (available online as of December 26, 2018), these shimmer lip crayons are available in 10 mystical shades and feature a glittery finish without the gritty feel.  Typically with glitter lipsticks, lips can feel rough since the glitter is textured, but these glide on the lips leaving you with a comfortable feel (there is no manufactured glitter in here, instead it’s a mineral shimmer).

The Crystal Creme Shimmer Lip Crayons (C$28 each) are inspired by the brand’s Matte Creme Lip Crayons, which are moisturizing, long wearing, apply easily, and deliver bold colour. Since it’s Bite Beauty, these are 100 per cent clean, vegan, and gluten free. They also have orange peel wax, jojoba, shea butter, and passionfruit seed oil in them to give you smoothness and creaminess.

Since these are pencils, it makes application super easy. First line your lips then fill them in!  The colour is quite light, but it does pack a punch. The shimmer is really pretty as well. Once the tip gets dull just pull off the other end to reveal a built-in sharpener.

As you can see in the swatches, the colours are pretty and universally flattering. The texture isn’t glittery but leans more to a light shimmer. If you love tinted moisturizer, then I would look into trying these out since they are so comfortable and light wearing and deliver a punch of colour.

I’ll definitely be carrying a few of these in my purse on the regular, especially Rose Glace and Cocoa Crush since they lean on the nude side. I wouldn’t say these are my favourite lipsticks, but if you love something shimmery then I think you’ll really adore these.

Social made me do it: Huda Beauty round up and impressions

I cannot believe that it’s the last day of 2018.

I’ve been super fortunate to try out so many amazing beauty products and lines throughout the past 365 days and one of the most exciting brands for me to get my hands on was Huda Beauty.

I’ve been familiar with Huda Kattan for years now as she started off as a beauty blogger and YouTuber who eventually created her own makeup line. What started as just false lashes soon grew into a multi-million dollar brand that is filled with eyeshadow palettes, foundation, primers, powders… you name it.

Anyways, since I’ve heard so many amazing things about the line (in particular the foundation and the eyeshadow palettes), I pretty much screamed with joy when this giant package of Huda goodness arrived at my doorstep a few months back.

Huda Beauty primer, lashes, and baking powder

First up is the Matte Perfection Pre-Makeup Base Primer (C$40), which is one of two primers in her line. This one is a gel formula which is aimed at controlling shine, minimizing and blurring the look of pores, evening out skin texture, and keeping makeup in place throughout the day.

This primer is a 60 per cent water-based formula, which makes it hydrating while also mattifying the skin (it also has minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium to revitalize the skin). It has a unique applicator since you’re supposed to shake it first then use the dropper to control the amount you dispense on your skin.

Once the primer is set, I reached for the #FauxFilter Foundation (C$52), which is available in 30 shades from light to dark. This foundation is a full-coverage foundation that is supposed to conceal blemishes and imperfections, leaving you with a flawless face.  I have the shade Vanilla 120B, which is for fair skin tones with beige undertones. It is also the third-lightest shade in the range.  This one is actually a bit too light for my skin tone, but I am able to make it work if it’s the dead of winter, or if I mix it with another foundation that is closer to my skin tone.

This foundation contains argan oil and centella asiatica to hydrate the skin.  It does give you a very high coverage and is a thicker foundation. It also makes your skin look flawless and covers up anything you need to be covered, such as blemishes, scars, and redness.

Since the shade I have is very light, I would love to try it in a darker colour, but if you are looking for something full coverage, then this does the trick.

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation and Lashes

To set the foundation (and any concealer you use), grab the Easy Bake Loose Baking and Setting Powder (C$43), which is one of my favourite items I’ve tried from the brand.

Available in eight shades, this loose powder helps you achieve an airbrushed finish and help set liquid products. It also helps blur the appearance of pores and fine lines.

Open up the jar to be greeted by a pleasant sweet smell and a net which allows you to dispense a controlled amount of powder. The texture of this powder is very light and it is easy to apply for baking or just setting makeup. I have the shade Pound Cake, which is designed for fair, light, medium, and tan skin tones. The golden undertones in the product help to brighten and disguise undereye circles as well.

I absolutely love this powder, from the scent to the shade, to how it makes my face look when I apply it. I have a ton of different setting powders, but lately this is the one I’ve been reaching for the most and one of my favourite items from the line.

Huge Beauty Desert Dusk palette

For the eyes, you may have heard about Huda Beauty’s eyeshadow palettes. In fact, the New Nude palette was one of the most coveted eyeshadow palettes this past holiday season. I got the Desert Dusk palette, which opens up to 18 shadows in glitter, matte, shimmering pearl, and duo-chrome topper textures.

This palette is a real stunner when you first open it. There are browns, pinks, nudes, and oranges in here, allowing you to create a variety of different ways to wear it.  The shades are very creamy and blend out nicely. With that being said, there are a couple staple shades that I wish were in here, one of them being a true white or shimmery highlight for the inner corner and brow. I feel like if you love creating darker looks, then this would be perfect for you. I wouldn’t call it an everyday palette, just based off the shade range in here, but it’s great as a night out palette since there are so many shimmery shadows and browns to create a smoky eye.  Perhaps the real stunner is the shade Cosmo, which is a brown rose gold that is beautiful to look at, but needs some work when applying it. There is a bit of fall out, so I recommend spraying your brush first with a setting spray and doing your eye makeup before your foundation.

If you are looking for something smaller and more affordable, then take a look at the Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes (C$35, some are currently on sale for $25 at Sephora), which is a range of palettes in 10 different colour combos.

Each palette contains nine shades that are complementary to four colour themes, warm brown, mauve, smokey, and electric obsessions, and contain matte and shimmer shades. Since they are small, they are perfect to throw in your purse or for travel.

Huda Beauty Obsessions palette in Coral

I got the the Coral Obsessions Palette (on sale right now for C$25), which contains shadows that all fall within the coral range.  There are two duo-chrome shimmers and seven matte shades to gives you a warm look. The shade range goes from burnt orange to dusty pink to browns.  It’s the perfect palette to have on hand for the crease, as well as for vacation. I actually love using this palette for the oranges since I always use an orange as a transition colour. The Coral palette isn’t the most wearable for everyday since all the shadows are a variety of orange, but the other palettes are great to have on hand and I love how you can choose which colour palette you want to go with.

To add a little oomph to the lashes, Huda Beauty lashes (C$26) are the item that started it all. I actually picked up a pair of her lashes last year and I do have to admit that I find them to be a little much for my eyes since they are quite bold, but if you are into that sort of thing, then you’ll love these.

I got the style Sasha this time around, which is a medium-volume lash that that brand says gives you “subtle drama”. They also say they are light in density and slightly longer in length. I would have to agree with the length bit, but they are quite stiff.  I find the band to be very stiff and not really that moveable, which can make it hard to apply (since they come rounded, they have the tendency to pop off if the glue isn’t set).

Huda Beauty says that you can wear these lashes up to 15 times. They are a beautiful lash to look at, but I prefer something that isn’t that dramatic, and I like a lash band that I can play around with. The band on these are very stiff, and like I said, have the tendency to pop off.

Finally, for the lips, first grab one of her Lip Contour Matte Pencils (C$25), which are available in 18 shades and glide on the lips to define and contour them. I absolutely love these lip liners as they are so creamy and give you pigmented colour.  I have the shade Venus, which is a nude, and I literally use this lipliner with every single nude lipstick I have.  I do find that on the lighter nudes, it is a touch too dark, but once I run my finger over my lips, it all glides out perfectly. The lip liner is also waterproof and transfer proof, so it won’t budge.

If you love the Kylie Cosmetics lip liners then I really think you’e going to love these. Best of all, since Huda Beauty is sold at Sephora, it’s much more accessible to find than Kylie.

Finally, the Liquid Matte Lipstick (C$26 each) is the perfect match to the lip liners and are available in 24 shades (22 mattes and two metallics). You guys know I love matte liquid lipsticks, so I was dying to try these out, and the hype is so real. These deliver comfortable, long-wearing colour that paints on opaque in one swipe.

I got the colour Gossip Girl, which is described as an everyday cute pink. It does have a tinge of mauve in it, which makes it look better with a tan. The formula in these have antioxidants and an exclusive complex to maintain lips’ hydration which is important since liquid lipsticks tend to dry out lips.

I’ve read so many amazing things about these lipsticks and i do have to admit that this is one of the better formulas I have ever tried. The colour lasts for a long time and I didn’t feel the need to reapply the colour or apply a lip balm on top after six hours or so. I would love to pick up some of her nude shades as I live in nudes and I feel like it would get a ton of wear.

Before and after using Huda Beauty

There are definitely some items that I loved more than others in her line. If you were to pick up a couple products to try out, I recommend the baking powder and the lip liners. The eyeshadow palettes were good, however, there’s so many amazing eyeshadow palettes out there that they do kind of rival other ones in my collection.

Of course there are also a couple more items in her line that I can’t wait to get my hands on. I would also love to try out different shades of the foundation, as well as the lip colour.

Feeling caliente: Kat Von D Lolita Collection

Did you know that Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita is sold every minute?

To celebrate one of the most iconic shades in the beauty world, the vegan cruelty-free brand has released a three-piece collection which extends the shade into a plethora of products.

The Lolita Capsule Collection is comprised of a liquid eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette, and a shimmery lipstick that gives you multiple ways to wear the chestnut rose shade. When the brand originally released the colour in 2015 it sparked a frenzy and became an instant favourite for so many people thanks to it being universal for any skin tone.  In fact, when a manufacturing error produced the shade a little differently, it instantly sparked a controversy and the brand dubbed the new shade Lolita II.

Anyways, if you are a fan of the OG Lolita, then you must look into this collection. Up first is the Lolita Eyeshadow Palette (C$46), which includes the original Lolita eyeshadow, which sold out in a few hours when it was originally released as an individual shade.  Open up the fuchsia palette to reveal eight matte shades that were inspired by Lolita’s rosy tones. If you haven’t tried Kat Von D shadows before, they are very high pigment and blendable, so a little goes a long way.

If you have blue or green eyes, then you’ll find that this palette really makes your eyes pop.  They are all rose-toned shades, so there isn’t a ton of ways to wear this (I prefer more neutral and gold-toned shadows). They are also matte shades, which I love for the crease, but not so much for the lid. I ended up putting a shimmery pigment on my lid after I played around with this palette and photographed swatches, just so I could make the eyes pop a little more.

Kat Von D Beauty Ink Well Long-Wear Matte Eyeliner in Lolita

Up next is the Ink Well Long-Wear Matte Eyeliner in Lolita (C$25), which is a matte eyeliner that provides 24-hour wear and waterproof, transfer-proof, and smudge-proof wear. The product is applied via the thin-tipped applicator that comes out of the pot.  At first I didn’t get the appeal of this liner, but after using it a couple times, I actually really ended up loving the shade and how it made my eyes pop. It’s something different than my usual black or brown and very wearable for daytime. My only complaint on this is that sometimes when I take the applicator out it tends to drip since it is a very wet product.  I do love how it dries ultra matte and quite fast.

Finally, if you want to wear Lolita on the lips in a different way, then take a look at the Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in Lolita (C$30), which is a rich, glimmer lipstick that is long wearing and weightless on application. Since the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are matte, this one adds a beautiful glimmer finish, without the usual grit that comes with a normal glimmer lipstick usually. I’ve tried this formula before and the colours were all very bright shades that I wouldn’t normally wear, however, this one is incredibly wearable and every time I have worn it I have gotten compliments on it. If you love Lolita, then look into picking this up. It’s the iconic shade, but in a glimmery format.

Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in Lolita

I actually ended up liking these products more than I thought I would. Although I am a fan of the original Lolita, a whole collection based on the iconic shade is a little much, but it totally works with all these products.

If you were to choose just one item out of the three, I would say to go with the Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick as you would probably get the most wear out of it and the formula of this lipstick really is beautiful.
