Send nudes: Covergirl Outlast All-Day Custom Nudes collection

When I first saw CoverGirl’s newest Outlast All-Day Lip Color collection, it was like they created this collections just for me.

The drugstore beauty brand recently came out with the most perfect lip collection, called Custom Nudes (C$9.99), and is filled with seven nude matte liquid lipstick colours.

Matte liquid lips and nudes?! Yes, that’s right folks, and it’s worth the hype.

The brand’s Outlast All-Day Lip Color isn’t a new formula, it offers two products, the matte liquid lip colour, as well as a separate balm for when your lips feel dry or you want a little bit of shine added.  This collection gives you 24-hour wear in nude shades for all skin tones.

I received six of the seven shades and although the lightest one (900) is my favourite (it’s a pinky nude, what’s not to like?), I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved the other colours as well. This collection is designed to enhance your own lip colour and that’s what I found for a few of the shades, since a lot of them actually did replicate close to what my natural colour is (my coworker found this as well). So what’s the point then? Well, I find liquid lipsticks tend to make your lips look bigger and it truly is the whole “your lips but better thing”. It gives you a similar shade, but just amplifies it up a bit.

Once the colour dries down, they really do stick there. In fact, I had a bit of a hard time washing this stuff off (you really have to scrub with these). Like most liquid lipsticks, the comfort isn’t too bad at first, but the longer it’s on, you may find that your lips get a little dry and that’s where the topcoat comes in since it’s formulated with sunflower seed oil for a comfortable and moisturizing feel.

In case you haven’t caught on yet, I’m kinda in love with this collection. I absolutely adore Covergirl products already, so when they release a whole nude matte liquid lipstick collection, I mean, what’s not to like? And, since it’s almost Valentine’s Day, you can start sending nudes out on a whole other level ;).

For that vacay: Mary Kay CC Cream Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 and Makeup Finishing Spray by Skindinävia

I remember there was this one day in Thailand two years ago where it was so hot that all my makeup just sweated off.  I still have this gross photo on my phone of my upper lip and it’s covered in little sweat beads.  What I really needed that day was to not wear makeup, but Mary Kay’s CC Cream and setting spray could have come to the rescue as well.

Okay, so maybe no makeup was definitely the way to go, but what I’m trying to get here is that Mary Kay’s CC cream gives you great coverage, looks natural, and has SPF in it.

Available in five shades, the CC Cream Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 is a complexion correction product that gives you amazing coverage, has skin-loving benefits, and provides you with that much-needed sun protection (even if you aren’t going to be outside, it’s still important that your face products have SPF in them). This CC cream gives you eight benefits in one step and it’s lightweight, leaving you with a natural complexion that covers up anything you want camouflaged.

I try a lot of CC creams and for only C$22, this one is incredibly affordable to pick up (by comparison, IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream is C$49). This CC cream brightens skin and protects it against future damage, while also hydrating and reducing the look of blemishes and redness.  I like how it comes in a pump applicator, making it a breeze to apply (and less likely that it will explode in your travel makeup bag… the worst!). Although they don’t have a huge shade range, I find the colours to adjust to your skin tone, so pick the one closest to what you would normally wear.

To make your CC cream last longer throughout the day, take a look at the Makeup Finishing Spray by Skindinävia (C$20), which is a last-step product to help your makeup last throughout the day.  Skindinävia might sound familiar to you since they also do Urban Decay’s setting sprays, which retail for a little over double the price at C$40. The fact that you can get a similar setting spray for half the cost is just mind boggling.

Mary Kay Setting Spray

Anyways, in case you aren’t familiar with setting sprays, they are the last step in your makeup routine and definitely a product that everyone should have in their collection. Once you’re done applying your makeup, shake the bottle, close your eyes and hold it about eight to 10 inches away from your face, then mist your face two to four times in an X and T formation. The product dries quickly and helps to set your makeup and provide longevity.

I absolutely adore this setting spray and highly recommend throwing it in your next Mary Kay order, along with the CC cream. Given the price points on these are so low, you’ll definitely be able to toss a few more necessities in your cart as well (I highly recommend the Satin Hands Nourishing Shea Cream, which is saving my dry hands this winter).

The neutralizer: Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue Collection

I’ve been pretty fortunate in that I don’t often get breakouts.

I’m the first to say I have pretty good skin, however, every once in a while I will experience a breakout or have to tame down redness in my complexion (I have to do the latter one quite often). If you suffer from breakouts often and have trouble camouflaging them with your makeup, then you’ll definitely want to look into Bare Minerals’ new line which helps to target blemishes and acne.

The new Blemish Rescue collection, which launched at Sephora on January 1, 2019, consists of four products to help resolve current breakouts and prevent future ones from happening. The line also helps to maintain skin’s essential moisture and contains salicylic acid, a blemish-busting mineral complex, and a blend of soothing ingredients to help calm and nourish acne-prone skin. This line has clinically shown to improve skin’s hydration instantly and after 12 hours, as well as mattify skin instantly and over time.

Included in the collection is the Anti-Redness Mattifying Primer (C$33), Skin-Clearing Loose Powder Foundation (C$37), the Seamless Buffing Brush with Antibacterial Charcoal (C$35), and the Skin-Clearing Spot Concealer (C$27).

Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue Primer and concealer

The Blemish Rescue Anti-Redness Mattifying Primer is a green-toned primer to neutralize red undertones in skin. It’s a soothing primer that helps to maintain skin’s essential moisture over time. The primer is infused with chamomile and arnica to calm and nourish skin, as well as a blend of zinc, sulfur, and kaolin clay to mattify skin and purify pores. Apply this to your complexion prior to the other products.

Next up, I use the Blemish Rescue Skin-Clearing Spot Concealer, which is a retractable pencil concealer available in six shades. This concealer helps to calm, clear, and cover blemishes and imperfections thanks to the salicylic acid in the formula. It also has mushroom stem extract to soothe skin, as well as liquorice root extract to help fade post-blemish scars. Since this is a pencil concealer, it’s not my favourite method of applying this product since I find it doesn’t really blend out as creamy as I would like. Bare Minerals says that this is crease-proof, waterproof, and sweat-resistant. I use this after the primer and before the powder foundation (remember: creams always before powders) and use the brush to help buff it into my skin. I do find that it helps to tone down any redness on my face.

The Blemish Rescue Skin-Clearing Loose Powder Foundation is like their iconic foundation but helps to resolve current breakouts and prevent future ones from happening. This foundation is available in 12 different shades and works the same way that the original formula works. Twist the jar and then tap some product into the lid. Using the buffing brush, work this into your skin for a healthy-looking, natural finish. If you love their original foundation but suffer from skin issues, then Bare Minerals has literally answered all your prayers with this line. This works the same way as their tried-and-true original foundation but is formulated to target future and current breakouts.

Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue powder foundation, concealer, and brush

I’ve been applying this foundation with the Seamless Bruffing Brush with Antibacterial Charcoal, which is a brush made with special fibres infused with activated charcoal and antibacterial silver ions to help repel bacteria. Because of that, it is also designed to stay cleaner for longer. The shape of the brush is the perfect size and density to really help buff the products into skin, leaving you with a flawless, natural finish. Although this brush was created to apply the Blemish Rescue Loose Powder Foundation, you can of course use it to apply other foundations as well.

In case you can’t tell, I absolutely love this line and am in awe that Bare Minerals created this. They took an iconic product and added a touch extra to it for those gals and guys that suffer from breakouts and acne. I think that this line would be perfect for teenagers or young adults just because their skin may be more prone to those conditions, and the finish everything gives you is just perfect. Heck, I’ve even been using it nonstop and I don’t get breakouts that often. It’s just that good.
