Feeling Ageless: CoverGirl New Simply Ageless products

I absolutely love CoverGirl’s foundations.

Every time the drugstore beauty brand releases a new one it always blows me away by how amazing it makes my skin look, as well as all the added benefits they pack into the products. I still use their Vitalist Elixir and TruBlend Matte Made foundations quite often, so when they sent over a couple new ones to try out, I wasn’t sure if I would love it more than what they already have in their line up.

Earlier this month, CoverGirl announced that media personality Sangita Patel would be the Canadian face of the Simply Ageless Collection, which relaunched in stores this month. Patel joins 70-year-old model and dietician Maye Musk, as well as Katy Perry, cookbook author and TV personality Ayesha Currey, and actress and producer Issa Rae to the CG spokesperson line up.

Covergirl + Olay Simply Ageless foundations

I’ve been familiar with the Simply Ageless collection for years now, which are products formulated with Olay skincare. I’m actually surprised they still produce this line because as we all remember, CoverGirl used to be owned by Proctor & Gamble but then got sold to Coty.  Meanwhile, Olay is still owned by P&G Beauty, so therefore since they now have different owners I totally thought they would kibosh the line (or maybe swap out Olay with a Coty-owned skincare brand instead).  For those of you who are a fan of Simply Ageless, well you have nothing to worry about since they recently relaunched it to include four products that now feature a hyaluronic complex and vitamin C to help hydrate skin and improve tone over time. The products include CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Liquid Foundation, the Covergirl + Olay Simply Ageless Anti-Aging Foundation Primer, the CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless Foundation, and the Simply Ageless Instant Fix Advanced Concealer (Olay was not part of this product).

I received all the products except the primer and couldn’t wait to put them to the test. I would normally not purchase this line since I feel like it is aimed for people that have more mature skin. With that being said, ever since I turned 30 last year, I’ve been taking anti-aging products way more seriously since I already have youthful-looking skin and I want to keep it that way.

CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Foundation swatches

The CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Liquid Foundation (C$16.97) instantly reduces wrinkles, evens skin tone, and gives you firming hydration. It’s a CoverGirl foundation infused with Olay science to make your skin appear younger.  There are 12 different shades available and you dispense the product through a pump.  When I first received these products I was quite confused by the difference between this one and the Simply Ageless Foundation, however, it looks like the original foundation comes in a compact (although it is a cream product) and it also has an SPF in it.

The CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless Foundation (C$16.46) helps to fight the signs of aging. It covers wrinkles by floating over them, not settling into them. CoverGirl says that the more you use this foundation, the better your skin will look. This foundation also features 12 different shades but is in a compact form, meaning you need to swirl your brush into it or use the sponge that comes with it.

Finally, the Instant Fix Advanced Concealer (C$11.94) comes in six shades and does not include the Olay technology. It is designed to instantly conceal dark circles and fine lines, and is formulated with hyaluronic complex and vitamin C.  CoverGirl says that this a full-coverage concealer, however, I found it to be very lightweight and light wearing.  This one is similar in packaging to their Tru Blend It’s Lit Concealer in that you twist the base to dispense the product. With that being said, TruBlend has a brush that you paint on, whereas Simply Ageless has a sponge, which I find tends to absorb a lot of the product as you are applying it.

Overall, I think this collection is okay. I don’t really have any wrinkles, so I may not be a target demographic for this, but found it did an alright job of giving me a flawless face. There are other foundations out there I certainly liked better by the brand, however, if I were to choose between the two foundations in this collection, I would go with the 3-in-1 formula since it’s cleaner to apply and I found it made my skin look more radiant (I still don’t completely know the reason why they need two foundations in this line).

Overall, these products do the trick and I love the idea that the foundation has skincare benefits in it as well. If you are concerned about wrinkles, then definitely give this a try. At under $20 a pop, it’s definitely worth it to try out.

Have you tried the CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless collection?

The cure: Skin & body treats for moisture

Perhaps the biggest news last week if you’re from North America were all these frozen temperatures going around. Coming from a place with a moniker of “Winterpeg”, we certainly experienced deep-freeze temperatures, dipping down to… wait for it… -52C… on more than one day.

Well yes my friends, it was as bad as it sounds and it was even worst for my skin since I basically went from soft and supple to the texture of a reptile.  Thankfully I have so much skincare lying around that I got to try out some new goodies and put them to the test for my face, body, and even insides.  If your skin is also hating this winter weather, then keep reading. Here are the skincare items you need to incorporate into your routine…

Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel and Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly

Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel

I got this goodie at the London Drugs Beauty Event this past October in Whistler, and having been a huge fan of Bioderma for years now, I couldn’t wait to put it to the test.

This mild cleansing foaming gel ($19.90) is formulated for sensitive skin since it has an exclusive DAF complex, which is a combination of active ingredients making it possible to reinforce the tolerance threshold of all types of sensitive skin. This cleanser helps to soothe irritated skin, strengthen it against sensitivities, moisturize and restore, and gently remove makeup and dirt.  I like pairing this with my Clarisonic or FOREO device for a truly refreshing cleanse since it foams up when you add water.

Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly

It’s been no secret that I’ve loved Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion since I was 16. I still have a bottle of it in my beauty cabinet (which I should really get rid of but there’s still half left) and it continues to be one of my all-time favourite moisturizers.

Clinique has come out with a few different formulas of the popular moisturizer over the years and the newest one is the Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly (C$36).  This jelly is a lightweight, water jelly formula that is designed to deliver 24-hour hydration repair.  The main different between this one and the OG is obviously the formula, but it also has pollution protection, which is a major skincare trend happening right now.

This moisturizer has Clean Shield Technology in it, which locks in the good and filters out the bad. It also strengthens skin’s moisture barrier and feels super fresh on the skin when you apply it. It’s perfect to wear while travelling, or if you live in a major city since it makes skin 87 per cent less vulnerable to pollution.

Laneige Water Bank

Laneige Water Bank Ultra Moisture Cream

If you are a Prairie girl like me and your skin hates you for all this minus a little weather, then take a look at Laneige’s Water Bank Ultra Moisture Cream, which is a special product that is developed only for Canada and the U.S. due to the super cold, dry weather, and delivers better hydration for your skin.

This moisturizer is right up my alley right now since the solid, thick butter balm formula contains a second-barrier complex consisting of 14 kinds of skin barrier protective ingredients.  It’s ideal to use on days when very dry or sensitive skin needs moisture (this definitely came in handy last week).

You can use this moisturizer in a variety of ways, including the OG way day and night, by adding it into your foundation or BB cream, applying it on other areas of your skin which need a little TLC, or even as a night mask.

Laneige Water Bank Dual Layer Face Oil

Pair Laneige’s Ultra Moisture Cream with their Water Bank Dual Layer Face Oil for the ultimate hydrating treat.

This fast-absorbing oil (C$49) is activated with a few shakes and delivers long-lasting moisture to your skin.  The texture of this is super cool since it features crystal droplets that deliver a blend of moisturizing Hydro Ionized Mineral Water and Moisture-Roof (a mix of skin-friendly oils) to seal everything in.

Jowae

Jowae Youth Concentrate Complexion Correction Serum

Top off your moisturizer routine with the Jowae Youth Concentrate Complexion Correction (C$52), which helps to reduce dark spots, brighten and even complexion, and help perfect skin and keep it looking young. This also helps to defy daily aggressors (similar to the Clinique jelly).

Apply this during your morning skincare routine to help you achieve that youthful glow and help even out skin tone. All you need is a small amount, which you heat up using your fingers, and then spread all over your face.

Jowae Hydrating Water Mist

Ever need just a quick pick me up? The Jowae Hydrating Water Mist (C$19) is inspired after makeup removal to prepare skin for the rest of your skincare routine. This water is applied by misting it over the face to help hydrate and protect it against daily aggressors.

Although this was originally created for use after you remove your makeup, I love using it any time of the day to instantly boost my mood. It’s also great after a workout, as a mid-day pick me up, and really any time you need a little happiness in your life. The formula refreshes skin with notes of herbal water, jasmine, and cedar wood.

Tula Kefir Ultimate Recovery Mask

It’s no lie that I’m kinda obsessed with Tula, so just had to devote a section of this blog post to some of my all-star faves at the moment.

The Kefir Ultimate Recovery Mask (C$72) is a nourishing and comforting mask designed to help skin recover from extreme dryness and signs of distress. As the name suggests, the star ingredient is kefir, a fermented milk drink which dates back to the 1800’s and is rich in probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. It’s known for its immense ability to hydrate and moisturize skin.

I love slathering this on after I have removed my makeup and cleansed my skin. The mask applies like a thick moisturizer and is clear aside from a subtle pink holographic glow.  Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then remove with a damp towel before carrying on with the rest of your skincare routine.

Tula Revitalizing Eye Cream

A must for your routine is a good eye cream and I’ve been rotating two of Tula’s all-star products in day and night.

The Tula Revitalizing Eye Cream (C$65) is a rich probiotic and squalene-infused cream that deeply hydrates the skin around the eye area, helping to minimize the appearance of fine lines and dark circles.

I absolutely love this eye cream since a little goes a long way. Apply a dab of the product to your eye area and moisturize it into your skin. Best of all, this eye cream is suitable for all skin types, meaning anyone can use it.

Tula Glow and Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm

Brand new from the brand (and currently sold out), this cooling eye balm (C$28) is the perfect product to carry with you wherever you go.

Swipe this on under your eyes to instantly cool, hydrate, and brighten the look of undereye dark circles, as well as tighten and hydrate the look of lines and wrinkles.  You can wear this underneath or on top of makeup for a natural, dewy glow.

The star ingredients in here are caffeine to help tighten and firm the look of lines and wrinkles; aloe, apple, and watermelon to provide deep hydration to the eye area; as well as blueberry, which is rich in antioxidants to hydrate and protect skin.

I absolutely love this eye cream (as well as their other one, and pretty much anything Tula produces), so keep an eye out on their site for the restock.

Tula Revitalizing Eye Cream and Glow and Get It Eye Balm

Tula Probiotic Supplements

If you want to take your hydration routine up a notch, then take a look at Tula’s Probiotic Supplements (C$33.15), which contain 30 daily probiotics.

These probiotics contain 10 billion CFU which are clinically proven to help with digestive and skin health. It also includes ceramides that are derived from rice to help skin retain moisture, and Vitamin C, which helps to visibly address skin’s tone and texture.

I highly recommend picking these up and taking them daily to help skin retain moisture (in addition to all the other skin-loving benefits).

Don’t forget, you can score 20% off your Tula order with code SHAYNAW.

Moroccanoil Night Body Serum

Of course it’s not just our face that gets super dry in the winter time. Moroccanoil’s Night Body Serum (C$68) is the overnight cure to help skin get smooth and firm.

This serum helps to firm, smooth, and nourish skin while you sleep thanks to its high-performing ingredients targeted to tighten and smooth skin after each application. It has an antioxidant-rich blend of argan and tsubaki oil to help address the loss of firmness and moisture, as well as Holy Basil extract to help protect skin from those pesky environmental stressors.

I love slathering my skin on this before bed. It is a bit greasy, but I do find that my skin absorbs it quickly (especially when it’s this dry). Whether you’re using a moisturizer or a serum, it’s super important to keep all your skin hydrated.

From the face to your skin and everything in between, with this cold winter weather, it’s been so important that I keep my skin nourished. I would love to know what products on your rotation this time of the year.

Cover it up: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer and Pro Filt’r Foundation

You guys should know by now that I love Fenty Beauty so much that whenever they launch a new product, I just need to get my hands on it.

Adding to their Pro Filt’r family, the Instant Retouch Concealer (C$32) is a creamy, long-wear, crease-proof liquid concealer that applies lightweight with medium-to-full coverage.  This concealer is designed to brighten under-eyes and conceal blemishes and redness.

Just like the foundation, Fenty came out with a ton of different colour options to suit any skin tone. There are a whopping 50 shades to choose from so it may be hard narrowing it down to a colour that suits your complexion.  I went with three shades based off her shade finder online, 120 (fair skin with neutral undertones), 170 (light skin with cool undertones) and 340 (tan skin with cool undertones *AKA for when I spray tan). I found that since I’m so pale right now, 120 did the trick, especially paired with her foundation, which I received in 180.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Concealers
Before and after swatches using the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealer

I’ve been using this concealer for a week now and like how it makes my skin look and feel.  You apply it via the doe-foot applicator, which is my favourite method for concealers since I find you can really get a good grasp on where you want to put the product. It dries down matte and find it doesn’t move once it sets, which is what I look for when trying out new concealers.

If you are looking for something a little more heavy-duty then I would look into this product since it is on the thicker side (which I love though). I’m a first-time use of the Pro Filt’r Foundation and found that the consistency in the two products were different.  With the foundation, a little goes a long way since it is a thinner product.  With that being said though, it is a medium-to-full coverage foundation, which is usually what I gravitate towards.

I’ve wanted to try the Fenty foundation for years now (basically ever since it came out), and I was so pumped to get my hands on it when I got the concealers. The Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (C$42) also comes in 50 shades and is a lightweight foundation that gives skin a flawless finish (seriously, like no pores, no shine, just nice skin).  The formula is oil free and made with climate-adaptive technology, making it resistant to sweat and humidity.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation

I got the shade 180 (light skin with warm undertones) and found that it matched me nicely (although perhaps a shade too dark, but I still make it work). I was very surprised by the texture of this foundation since it’s not thick like the concealer (although, with that being said, the concealer isn’t even that thick, I just find the two to be different consistencies, as they should really).  One small pump of this foundation is enough to cover my face, leaving me with the perfect coverage.  I really like foundation and think it’s worth the hype. I did hear ahead of time that it tends to oxidize on the skin, which I found that it did, but maybe if you are worried about that happening then to go a shade up.

Overall, I love both of these products, although I totally knew I would since I’m obsessed with anything that Fenty Beauty produces.  She also came out with some brushes and a setting powder, so that’s definitely next on my hit list.
