Healthy inside and out: My top picks from Vital Proteins

Okay, so I harp on here all the time about keeping your skin and hair nice and moisturized, but I mean there is only so much a good body lotion/skincare/hair product can do.

Lately, I’ve been getting more interested in supplements and items that I can take orally to help nourish my skin, nails, and hair.  One brand that I saw everywhere when I was in New York (seriously, they even sold it at Sephora), was Vital Proteins.

You may have seen Vital Proteins before (their branding and packaging is so cute), but if you haven’t, it’s a line of sustainably-sourced nutrition products that are aimed at promoting health, fitness, and natural beauty. Their items are designed to add collagen back into your body, as well as promoting the production of it, which is an essential nutrient that is trapped from our diets by modern food processing. The collagen is sourced from either cattle (bovine) or fish.

We all have collagen in our bodies, however, the production of it starts to decline as we age. So what is collagen? It’s a nutrient that our bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments are made of.  It’s also found in blood vessels, corneas, and teeth. As we age, the production of it starts to decline and you may notice signs of aging, so this is where these products come in handy.

Vital Proteins is a line of collagen-infused products that are designed to work with your lifestyle. You can add the OG Collagen Peptides to your coffee, water, oatmeal, etc., or you can do their coffee creamers, lattes, shots, water, supplements, etc. I received a few different products from the brand and wanted to share my thoughts on these items and if they really do work.

So without further ado…

Vital Proteins Cocoa Caramel Collagen Latte

Caramel Cocoa Collagen Latte

If you’re looking for a little treat, then I recommend the Caramel Cocoa Collagen Latte ($45 USD), which is a gluten-free powder that you can add to hot water or a different hot beverage (I recommend oat milk). This dairy-free latte has 10g of bone broth collagen, 1g of sugar, and other ingredients like ashwagandha extract (for less stress), hydronic acid (skin nourishing), and MCTs from coconut milk power (to give you energy).

All it takes is two scoops to gain the benefits of this innovative latte. With regular consumption you should start to see benefits in your hair, skin, and nails. Although it is a cocoa caramel flavour, I don’t find this to be sweet at all. It’s more like a hint of flavour, so I feel like it could also be a nice little pick me up to a black cup of coffee or other latte.

You can also add this to cold water if you prefer, however, I did find it to be a little difficult to dissolve in hot water, so it would probably be even tougher to get a creamy texture in a cold beverage.

Vital Proteins also offers this in a variety of other flavours, so if caramel isn’t your jam, there are other options like Chocolate Cherry Almond, Madagascar Vanilla, and more.

Vital Proteins Blue Moon Milk Collagen Latte

Blueberry Moon Milk Collagen Latte

If you have trouble sleeping at night, then this will be your jam.

The Blueberry Moon Milk Collagen Latte ($39 USD) helps relax you for a perfect night’s sleep.  Add two scoops of powder to a hot beverage to get 10g of bone broth collagen, as well as melatonin, GABA, and magnesium for relaxation.

This powder is made without dairy, artificial flavours, colour, sweeteners, or additives, and is also gluten free.

This one is probably my favourite product from them. Truthfully, I wasn’t so excited on the taste of this initially since blueberry is kind of a strange flavour for a beverage, but I have to say that every night I have taken this it has completely knocked me out. I typically read a book or watch a show before bed and I find that on the nights I have used this, I find it difficult to keep my eyes open.

I do find that two swoops is a lot, so I have been using one scoop and warm oat milk, and find it’s perfect as this combo.  I have tried it with water, however, I find the milk to dilute the flavour a little more and make it creamier. As a result, I’m usually done the beverage within five minutes since it’s way more yummy this way.

They also offer the Moon Milk Latte in blueberry and lemon in a special edition Poosh version with Kourtney Kardashian.

Vital Proteins Sleep and Defence shots

Sleep and Defense Collagen Shot

If you want a quick fix to your sleep problems, then take a look at the Sleep Collagen Shots ($54 USD).  These 2 fl. oz. shots come in a pack of 12 and is a blend of blueberry and lavender, as well as 7g of collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid to keep your skin hydrated and nourished while you sleep, as well as melatonin, magnesium, and GABA.

I love the idea of these and they are great to incorporate into your bedtime routine (especially since they are so quick to take).  Vital Proteins has other shots available as well, such as the Defense shots, which would be great to take right now since it’s flu season.

Vital Proteins Sleep and Defence shots

The Defense shots include turmeric and black pepper, as well as 7g of collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid, pineapple juice, organic coconut water, and lime juice.  These are great to take after your workout for a quick boost and a nice cool-down treat.

Vital Proteins also has these shots available in four other options (Zen, Glow, Restore, and Cleanse). Just shake it up, open it up, and pound it back.  I love the idea of these, although I do have to say that they are very expensive for what they are.  You only get 12 in a pack, so the cost per use is $4.50 USD, making these very expensive.

Vital Proteins Hyaluronic Acid capsules

Hyaluronic Acid Super Surge Capsules

If you are looking for some extra moisture in your skin that isn’t a topical solution then give the Hyaluronic Acid Super Surge Capsules ($39 USD) a look.

Pop two capsules a day for hydrated and healthier skin, hair, and nails. These capsules are vegan and contain 120mg of hyaluronic acid, five-times the daily value of biotin, and two-times the daily value of vitamin C.

These capsules are so easy to take, I just leave the bottle on my counter and usually take them around dinner.  After repeated use, you should see an improvement in your skin, hair, and nail texture. These are also great to take if you are looking for a vegan option. Since a lot of the other collagen products contain ingredients from bovine or fish, these are a great alternative for you if you shy away from those things.

Vital Proteins has many other products available as well, and if you are looking for a little boost to keep your skin, hair, and nails extra healthy this season and going forward, I would look to see if they have a product that could suit your needs. Seriously, they have so many awesome items that it may be a bit overwhelming at first to find the right product for you, but once you do, I know you’re going to love the line.
