Big colour: Rimmel London Maxi Blush & Crimson Eyes Palette
I’m really not that picky when it comes to blushes.
Sure, they come in all sorts of formulas and textures, but honestly, as long as they do the work, I’m happy. I have a number of luxury brand blushes, but I find that drugstore does the trick just as well.
Recently I was sent four new blushes from Rimmel London, which officially launched October 1. The Maxi Blush is a lightweight powder that gives cheeks colour and a healthy-looking glow. Available in four shades, these blushes are a great value since they deliver major colour and are rather large in size (nine grams of product).
Although there are only four shades, they colours they chose really suit a variety of skin tones. Sweet Cheeks is a matte peach/nude colour; Third Base is a shimmery pink, similar to NARS Orgasm; Wild Card is a pinky-red; and Rendez-Vous is a deep fuchsia. Since I’m rather lighter in skin colour, I naturally gravitate towards Sweet Cheeks and Third Base, however the other two are workable as well as long as I tone them down a bit with some foundation after I apply them.
I actually really like these blushes, and although there isn’t a large shade range in here, I truly think you can find a shade that will suit your skin tone. I love the formula since they blend out easily and don’t look too patchy once applied, I also find that the colour stays on throughout the day nicely as well. These retail for C$9.99 at drugstores, which is a total steal for the quality and size of the blushes. I’m sure the brand will be coming out with more colours in the future as well.
Also new for fall is their Magnif’eyes Crimson Edition eyeshadow palette. I’ve tried a number of their palettes in the past and have always been impressed with the shade selection and pigmentation of the shadows. This palette also launches this month (along with some new lippes as well… but I’m saving that for another post).
The Crimson edition palette contains 12 shadows in both shimmer and matte shades. The shade selection in here leans more towards reds, pinks, and browns, making it super fall appropriate. Rimmel says that the shadows are rich, intense, and offer long-lasting colour which is crease proof and smear proof.
I played around with this palette last Saturday and liked how it performed. I do wish there were more lighter colours in here, as there is only really one or two. I think the palette is really pretty to look at but then once you start playing around with it, you’re only really stuck with creating smokier, darker looks. I also found that the shadow pigmentation was just okay. I’ve used creamier shades before in drugstore palettes and was a little disappointed with the formulation with these. It is possible to get pigmented colour but I found I had to really go in with my brush to get the colour on (not so much with the darker shades, but more-so with the lighter ones).
If you love wearing berry-toned shadows, then I would look at picking this palette up. Rimmel has a number of other eyeshadow palettes in the Magnifi’eyes line that i think are more versatile, but if you’re looking for a new palette for all your fall looks, then I would give this one a try. At C$11.99 you really can’t beat that price for 12 shadows.
