Long + lean: Three haircare lines you need this season

Shampoo and conditioner. Two basic items anyone needs in their life.

When it comes to haircare, there are so many options out there based off your hair type and what you look for when washing your hair. Since my hair is long, thick, and coloured, I tend to go for something that will keep it healthy and also keep my blonde looking bright, but to be honest, I’m not really married to one line in particular. I do have a couple favourites, however, love trying out new brands and new lines within that brand.

Since it’s pretty much fall, that means that the weather will be getting colder and the air drier, at least here in Winnipeg. Like I said, my haircare closet is currently stocked, but I’ve received these products recently and totally recommend trying them out if you are looking for something new.

MoroccanOil Color Complete Collection

Consisting of a shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in spray treatment, this line helps your hair look vibrant even after being exposed to daily environmental stressors that cause colour to fade and become brassy. The brand says that after 10 washes, the collection is scientifically proven to extend colour life and vibrancy by 100 per cent.

The shampoo (C$30) is gentle and sulfate-free and extends your in-salon treatment.  All these products include their ColorLink technology, which continuously repairs both chemically and physically, so that your hair retains colour properly.

The conditioner (C$31) features a nourishing, sulfate-free formula that helps to rebuild the keratin structure and lock in colour using the same ColorLink technology.

Finally, once you are out of the shower, spray in the Protect & Prevent Spray (C$34.50) to help reduce brassiness and fading. It also helps shield hair from environmental factors, including UV rays, pollution, and thermal damage. It contains ArganID micro-encapsulated technology to repair and seal the hair cuticle.

I’ve used this line a few times and I have to say that at first I didn’t love it. I found it made my hair feel kind of dry, but since I don’t like to form opinions based off of one or two trials, I kept pulling it out and using it and found by the third time I used it, it made my hair quite soft and the colour luminous.

I have a number of colour care lines, and although I don’t find this one to be any better than others out there, I really do love the spray, since this is one of the items I always use when my hair is still damp. I find colour-protecting sprays to be really useful when you have blonde hair since they tend to keep the colour looking top-notch.

L’Oreal Paris Dream Lengths

New to drugstore haircare, L’Oreal Paris has recently released a haircare line to help long hair out.

I have long hair myself and often find I’m looking at my split ends and annoyed at the fact that they just keep reappearing. Long hair, although beautiful, is susceptible to damage and split ends, which means you often need to go for a haircut. This line helps repair hair to the tips, so you can save your locks from split ends and constant haircuts.

Consisting of a shampoo, conditioner, and serum, this line includes castor oil, which nourishes, adds shine, and keeps hair long and healthy. It also has vitamins to make hair stronger.

I particularly love the Dream Lengths No Haircut Cream, which you apply to your hair focusing on the ends after your shower to seal split ends and strengthen the hair. It also adds shine and makes hair easier to style and provides heat protection up to 180 degrees C.

Hair Food Moisture Honey & Apricot Shampoo and Conditioner

Hair Food Moisture Honey & Apricot Shampoo and Conditioner

I had only briefly heard of Hair Food in the past, but when I received this I was eager to try it all out.

The first thing you’ll notice about this line is how huge the bottles are. These bottles are filled with ingredients that help nourish our bodies, not harm them. This particular line contains honey and apricot and is a conditioning recipe that moisturizes dry, dull hair, smoothes the hair cuticle, and helps to protect hair against future damage.

The formula contains no parabens or mineral oil and best of all, it smells like honey.  These retail for around $14, which considering how large the bottles are, is a great deal since it will last you a long time.

Like I said, I wasn’t that familiar with the brand prior to receiving these products from London Drugs, however, after trying them out, I did notice that my hair felt super soft and nourished.

I love switching up my haircare routine often just depending on my mood that day and what I feel my hair needs in that moment. Next time you’re in Sephora or your local drugstore, definitely stop by the haircare aisle to check these out.

What’s your favourite haircare line?
