Healthy on the go: Edo Japan opens in Winnipeg

I’m forever on a health kick. The problem is I absolutely love food.

I’ve mentioned this before, but when I was younger I was quite heavy. It wasn’t until I went to university that I started actively working out and eating better. I try to limit fast food and if I do treat myself to a burger and fries, I tend to customize my order, whether that be no bacon or no sauce.

For the most part, I meal prep during the week, however, if there is a day that I don’t have anything to chow down on at home I will pop by a quick service restaurant to get something yummy and fast.  Since I like to eat healthy, especially during the weekdays, I tend to go to places that have healthy options.  Because of this, I was so excited to hear that Edo Japan opened their first location here in Winnipeg.

Founded in Calgary over 30 years ago, Edo Japan offers traditional Japanese Teppan-style meals using fresh, quality ingredients with their signature Teriyaki sauce. There are over 100 Edo Japan food court and storefront locations across the country and the very first one in Winnipeg is already open in CF Polo Park (they plan on opening a few others here over the next year).

When it comes to Japanese, I also tend to go for sushi, but lately I’ve been expanded my orders and been loving sushi burritos (which is just a giant sushi roll that you eat like a burrito) and Poke bowls (obsessed). I couldn’t wait to see what Edo Japan was all about so I popped in this week and picked up a Chop Chop bowl with chicken. It features grilled chicken, beef, or crispy tempura shrimp on top of rice, raw veggies, and bulgogi sauce.  Since I got it to go I found it hard not digging into it right away (had to take photos first). The sauce was awesome and I found the dish very filling (would definitely order it again!).

If you want to try out Edo Japan, they are actually having their grand opening party this Saturday, March 3 at the CF Polo Park food court.  Guests will enjoy half -priced Teriyaki meals, gift card giveaways, and the Edo Japan Ninja mascot onsite to celebrate from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Best of all, I am giving away a $25 gift card to one lucky follower. Head on over to my Instagram for your chance to win!
