Spring fresh: Spring skincare and makeup items from Mary Kay Cosmetics

Mary Kay has been killing it with their products lately.

The direct-to-consumer beauty brand has released a bevvy of new products for spring 2018 and I couldn’t help but get a little excited because there are some major all-stars in here. Think hydrated skin, beautiful eyeshadows, and fluffy brushes.

Okay, so first up is the most exciting item, a six-piece brush set that features five multi-tasking brushes and a matching black carrying case. These brushes are feathery-soft and feature synthetic bristles and made to perform a variety of different uses.  There’s a cheek brush, an all-over powder brush, an all-over eyeshadow brush, an eye smudger brush, and an eye crease brush.  The variety that MK chose to include in here was quite stellar, the only thing I would swap out would be that “eye crease” brush, which is a thicker angled brush that I personally would not use in my crease as I prefer a fluffy dome-shaped one instead. But to each their own I guess…

The quality on the brushes in here is quite outstanding and you can truly use them a variety of different ways. For instance, the all-over powder can easily double as a blush; the cheek can be used for blush, contour, or even foundation,, and the eyeshadow brushes, well, they can be used for a variety of different functions for eyeshadows.

I believe this retails for $75 USD, not sure on the Canadian pricing, but for five good-quality brushes and a nice case to house them (and others), I think it’s a good deal. These are seriously so soft and luxurious that you’ll be keeping these for years to come (just remember to clean them often!).

Looking for something to use those new brushes with? Mary Kay has released a couple new limited edition Mineral Eye Colour Quads in the colours Berry Haute and Shades of Jade.

Like their other eyeshadow sets, these are magnetic so you place them in a Z Palette for storage (or buy a case from Mary Kay directly).  These are quite small, but feature four complementary shades to create a variety of different looks.  Both of them are perfect for spring and even if you don’t want to do a strictly purple or green look, you can easily still use these for something a little more natural (use the cream on the lids with the darker shades in the crease).

I tried out the purple one and the colour payoff was quite nice.  Neither palette really struck me as something that you have to pick up (unlike the brush set), but these are nice. I also like the fact that they are magnetic since I have a very lonely-looking Z Palette that needs to be filled.

Now onto skincare… Since this is a spring collection, it is still technically winter and I don’t know where you’re from, but here in Winnipeg winter means cold and dry. I’ve been slathering myself in lotion every night so these new goodies from Mary Kay have been coming in handy.

New to the Satin Body family is the Satin Body collection, which features the Satin Body Revitalizing Shea Scrub, the Satin Body Indulgent Shea Wash, the Satin Body Silkening Shea Lotion, and the limited edition Satin Body Whipped Shea Creme, all in a White Tea and Citrus fragrance and infused with shea butter.

Although it’s never really mattered to me much before, but I do enjoy using the same line from body wash to moisturizer, so I’ve really been enjoying these products. I’m not that crazy on the scent, but the everything is very luxurious and leaving my skin feeling nice and moisturized thanks to that added shea butter. Although a scrub is good to have for sloughing away dead skin cells, I would highly recommend picking up the body wash and a whipped shea cream, since the latter is limited edition, and the former is a body wash and who doesn’t need a luxurious body wash?

Since Mary Kay products are traditionally more expansive than let’s say, Dove, these are definitely a treat and would great as a treat to yourself or as a gift. There are so many good lotions, scrubs, and body washes nowadays, that I wouldn’t say you absolutely have to pick these up, but if you want to treat yo’ self, go ahead.

Out of everything Mary Kay has to offer for spring, I still stand by the brush set as the one item that I would highly recommend.  The quality of those brushes is phenomenal and who doesn’t need more brushes in their life? If don’t matter how good the makeup is, if you don’t have the proper tools to apply it, you’re wasting your time.

Are you excited for Mary Kay’s spring 2018 collection?
