Long wear and lightweight: Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation

I used to be a Laura Mercier foundation diehard. Way back in my early blogging days I was obsessed with the brand’s Silk Creme foundation. In fact, although I haven’t used it in years, I would still recommend it.  The problem is, I have so many foundations nowadays that there really isn’t a need to pick up a new bottle of it (I know, it’s a good problem to have).

Anyways, although Silk Creme is still near and dear to my heart, when I saw the brand came out with a new foundation, I was so excited to try it.  The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation is a 15-hour, long-wearing foundation that is oil free and transfer resistant. The formula dries down to a matte finish and is weightless to wear. Like its predecessor, it’s a medium-to-full coverage foundation.

Available in 20 different shades, Flawless Fusion is formulated with Skin Fusion technology to seal the product into place for 15 hours of comfortable wear that won’t transfer, meaning that you can sweat in it, you can be outside in the heat with it, and you can even go swimming with it on. Those are some pretty high claims.

I got the colour 1W1 Ivory, which is perfect for my pale winter skin. The product blends out nicely and settles into the skin quickly as well. This foundation contains coated pigments that glide on your skin, making it totally buildable, so you can have either a medium coverage or a full one. It dries down into a matte finish, which I’m totally into at the moment, but it doesn’t make your skin look dull at all. The coverage is pretty nice, which I was surprised about since it is so lightweight in feel; it totally feels like I’m wearing a BB cream or a light coverage foundation. I also want to note that the colour you see is the colour you get, in that it didn’t oxidize on my skin (I think we’ve all had that dreaded moment when you walk out of the bathroom light and your neck is paler than your face).

Laura Mercier says that this foundation is ideal for all skin types, especially normal to oily, and for my normal skin I found it to be a comfortable wear. At a price tag of C$59, I expect this to wear for a full workday, and I think it certainly did so. I’ve also worn it in fitness classes and would say it holds up really well. To me, this is more of a daytime foundation since it’s lightweight in texture. It would also be perfect for those summer months when you don’t want that feeling of makeup on your face when it’s sizzling hot outside.

So is it better than Silk Creme? I do have to say that I like Silk Creme more, however, Silk Creme is more of a nighttime foundation and this one would be one I would wear during the day. Silk Creme is a little heavier as well, so really it depends on what you like most when you’re looking for a new foundation. Lightweight? Full coverage? etc. etc.

I would recommend checking this one out as like I said, it does give you a long wear time and it’s incredibly comfortable on the skin. Plus, I’ve always been a fan of the Laura Mercier shade range and the fact that she offers so many different colours.
