First there was contouring, then there was strobing.

Okay, so strobing has kinda been a thing now for the past little while, however, I’ve never really been that into it. I love highlighters and use them daily, but I’ll just place a little shimmer on the highs of my cheekbones and then the tip of my nose to get that easy dewy look.

I strobed for the first time last weekend when I put to use the NYX Cosmetics Strobe of Genius Palette, a new collection of must-have highlighters that give you everything you need to strobe like a pro.

The palette, which retails for C$26.99, features seven shades of highlighters, four on the top row and then three larger ones at the bottom. There’s yellow, peach, lavender, purple, champagne, bronze, and light gold. I’ve always been one to use a champagne or silver-toned highlight so I mostly stuck to that bottom row, however, I did use the bronzer to do a contour and then the pink on the top row second from the left on my cheeks. It wasn’t overpowering and I didn’t look like I dipped my face in glitter either.

As for the formula, these are very creamy for a drugstore highlighter (nevermind seven of them). The payoff is very noticeable as you do get quite the shimmer when you apply them. Considering this retails for $27, that’s a steal for seven amazing highlighters even if you don’t like all the shades (and to be fair, some of the shades in here would not look flattering on a lot of people’s skin tones).

I paired this palette with NARS Sheer Glow foundation to strobe since it want a dewy foundation as your base. The effect you’re going for is Jennifer Lopez, basically any day of her life. You want that lit from within look. Although I’m clearly not huge on strobing, I think I achieved it from this palette.  You obviously don’t need to learn how to strobe though in order to use this. If you love highlighters, then I would look into picking this up since it’s an amazing value for what you get.
