Smart + sophisticated: Mary Kay Fall 2017 makeup collection

Fall makeup. Think dark, bold, and eye-catching. Well, that’s exactly what Mary Kay’s fall collection is all about.

Bordeauxs, pinks, purples.. staple colours that make a statement.  Mary Kay’s limited edition collection for fall consists of eyeshadows, lipsticks, and nail polishes. Similar to their spring collection earlier this year, they are offering up those cute eyeshadow quads that fit perfectly in a Z palette, as well as some nail polish colours that promise to keep you looking at your nails all season long.

There are two eyeshadow palettes to pick from in this collection, Simply Smoky, the blue-toned palette for warm tones, and the Rose Nudes palette for cool tones. You can either wear these as an everyday look or make it more dramatic.  Each palette has five shades in it and the formula is very creamy and blendable. These compared to the eyeshadow palette from their summer collection are like night and day. The shadows from the summer I found to be very sheer and didn’t have much colour payoff. These ones are incredibly creamy and blend wonderfully on the lids.

I ended up playing around with the Rose Nudes palette last Friday and since I was going out, I wanted to rock a brown smoky eye. I used the bottom colour (as you can clearly see in the photo haha) all over the lid area, with the middle pink for the highlight. For under the eyes, I used the top colour, which is very similar to the bottom one. I actually loved how well this look turned out. I did end up layering some gold glitter lightly on the lids to add some pizazz, but you can definitely achieve a nice brown smoky eye with this palette.

As for the other items, there are four nail polishes, Violet Silk (taupe purple), Pink Escape (baby pink), Rose Blush (taupe pink) and Mulberry Muse (wine). I received two of the four shades, Rose Blush and Violet Silk. The shades are very fall appropriate and colour goes on nicely with two coats. I did experience a few days of wear before chipping. I was a huge fan of their spring collection in this polish formula, as I find the colours to be very bold and eye-catching.

Finally, it’s not a fall look without a bold lip. Mary Kay has released two shades in their limited-edition Lip Suede lipsticks. There’s Mulberry Muse, a bordeaux purple, and Rose Blush, a deep pink. I didn’t think I would like these as much as I actually did. You need to work to get the colour on but once it’s on it tends to stick. I went through my day wearing Rose Blush with no touch ups as it faded to a stain at the end of the day. There was some wear in the inner lip area when I was wearing Mulberry Muse, but it’s a nice deep purple, perfect for the season. I did find these were kind of tacky as you really have to apply the product on your lips. It’s not my favourite formula of lipstick, but the shades are nice.

Overall, this is a typical colour collection for fall. If you like a deep lip and a dark nail to go with it, take a look at what Mary Kay is releasing for the season.
