Swamped: Formula X #ColorCurators Urban Bush Babes collection for July 2016

UBB title

New month, new colours.

Formula X has kept the suspense real this year by launching limited edition nail polish shades with different influencers every month. I’ve gotten every collection aside from June, and since it’s now July I can reveal who the collaborators are.

Drumroll please….

Colours

For July, identical-twin (and Canadian-born) lifestyle and fashion bloggers Cipriana Quann and Nikisha Brunson, AKA Urban Bush Babes, has released a three-colour collection that’s inspired by the diverse elements of nature: sand, sun, and lush greenery.

At first glance this collection definitely comes across as grungy. This was the first time I’ve heard of Urban Bush Babes, but after seeing the colours, I definitely thought they were more grunge than natural just based on these colours.

Two of the colours are green-toned, Seeing Double, a golden metallic with a dose of green, and EverDream?, a deep green creme. The third colour, Beige From Our Book, is a shimmery beige that looks creme when applied.

All three colours went on amazing and they were all opaque after two coats.  They also lasted quite a while before chipping, which may be due to Formula X’s new base and top coats.

First I used Formula X Color Corrector, a colour-correcting base coat infused with optic brighteners to instantly neutralize discolored nails and help reduce yellowing. To seal the colour, I did a coat of Formula X Shine Strength, a strengthening topcoat infused with acrylic and keratin to shield nails with a high-shine, gel-like finish.  Both the base and top coat dried quite fast with my nails looking super shiny.

Overall, I found the colours in this collection to be just meh. I’m not a huge fan of metallics in general and as much as I love nudes, I feel like a lot of people have done a nude colour in these collections.  If I was given the option by Formula X to create three shades, I would definitely do something that hasn’t been done much before (also bright, fun colours).

If I had to pick one as my fave, it would be EverDream? as it looks so beautiful once applied on the nails, however, I do find it to be more of a fall colour, definitely not something I would normally wear in July…

Will you be picking up any colours from the Formula X Color Curators Urban Bush Babes collection?

Please note, items sent by PR. All opinions are my own.
