Roar! Katy Perry x CoverGirl Kitty Kat Matte Lipsticks

Title

When Katy Perry was announced as a CoverGirl spokesperson a few years back I thought it was a perfect fit for the brand. I love Katy Perry and what better way to rejuvenate a cosmetic brand then to get a spokesperson who appeals to a younger audience.

I’ll be honest, prior to working with P&G Beauty, I always associated CoverGirl with makeup my mom would wear. It just didn’t seem as hip to me as say Rimmel London, Maybelline, or any of the other drugstore brands due to their ambassadors and their packaging. Then everything started to change a few years back. They have some younger CoverGirls like Katy Perry, Nervo, and most recently, Zendaya, and all of the sudden CoverGirl is one of the best drugstore brands out there.

So this brings to me today’s post and CoverGirl’s newest collection in collaboration with America’s favourite sweetheart Katy Perry. The Katy Kat collection, which has been released just in time for summer, is in collaboration with Perry and features a line of 11 matte lipsticks and a new mascara in black, as well as a blue.

Case Lineup

I have yet to try the mascaras since I currently have eyelash extensions, but everything about the lipsticks are amazing. Obviously the first thing to note is the packaging.  It looks like CoverGirl gave Katy Perry free range on everything, so these feature a velvety white (think NARS texture, meaning these will get dirty – you have been warned…) top with the Katy Kat Matte label on them in the front and Katy Perry <3 CoverGirl on the side.  At the bottom is the shade name (which were all named by the singer herself) as well as a cat ears motif (true fact, her cat’s name is Kitty Purry, which is one of the shades in the collection – in fact it’s the one that Perry thinks she would wear the most!).

Although the colours are deemed as matte, they aren’t drying. I’m used to matte liquid lipsticks, which literally stick on the lips, so the feeling on these were a bit different for me.  They do feature a pillowy soft feel thanks to the added shea butter in the formula. Most of the colours are velvety matte, whereas the darker ones do have a sheen to them.

I was quite happy with the colours once applied. I absolutely love the lighter ones, however, if you’re eyeing some of the darker ones, I will say that some of them went on patchy, including the star in the collection, the black lipstick. The black shade, Perry Panther, is not a conventional lipstick shade and is the first black for the brand. I wanted to love it, but it didn’t glide on smooth, and since it’s so dark I would be scared to wear it since it tends to slide around. To sum it up, you need to be majorly skilled in applying this.

The rest of the colours did go on amazing, they aren’t quite opaque the first time around so you may need to build up the colours. Swatches below..

Retailing for under $10 each, I definitely recommend picking up some of these shades. I’ve always been a fan of CoverGirl lipsticks in general since they are so comfortable to wear, so the unique packaging on these and the fact that they are matte (which is so popular right now) make these fireworks ;).

Have you picked up any of the CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte lipsticks?

Please note, I received this product for review. All opinions are my own.
