#SeeItAll: Colour + culture at the Cuban pavilion at Folklorama

Title

Hola!

Week one of Folklorama is officially over, but that means that we get to experience a whole new set of pavilions and culture.  To finish up the first week, the last pavilion I visited was the Cuban one, held at the RBC Convention Centre here in Winnipeg.

The Cuban pavilion was one of the new ones to hit the festival, and it didn’t disappoint.  With such a big venue I had high hopes for this show, and it certainly delivered.

Maybe it was the amazing Cuban food, or the incredibly talented dancers, who came from as far away as Edmonton and Calgary, but this show was awesome.  The quality of the dancing and performing made it one of the best shows I have been to during week one.

Inspired by the heat of Cuban’s climate, I went with a dewy-bronzy look, complete with an orange lip and purple liner. Cuba’s culture is full of colour, and although this look is very minimal, I wanted to add those pops of colour in to celebrate the bright ambiance of this beautiful country.

Here’s how to get the look…

Final 1

Steps

1. Lay down a gold eyeshadow primer to create a base for the eyes. I used New York Color City Proof 24-Hour Eye Color in Murray Hill Champagne.

2. With an orange eyeshadow, lightly dust this into the crease area.  You don’t have to go too heavy, as the orange is being used as a transition shade.  I used Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in S-74.

3. As a base colour for the lid, I chose to go with a rose shade, using Make Up For Ever in Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in L-802.

4. To add dimension, I added a champagne-gold (from the Lise Watier Rivages eyeshadow palette) over the rose, making sure to not take it into the outer corners.

5. For the crease, I lightly dusted a metallic bronze (also from the Lise Watier Rivages palette), making sure to keep it subtle.  For this look I really wanted the lips to be the focal point.

6. I skipped black liner and chose to add a pop of purple instead.  I used Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow and Liner in Violet.

7. Curl your lashes and apply a couple coats of mascara to finish up the top part of the eyes.. I used Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch with CoverGirl SuperSizer Mascara over top.

8. To finish up the eyes, I dusted that bronze along the lower lash line and then added some coats of mascara to my bottom lashes.

final 2

To finish up the entire look, I used Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation in Y225, Maybelline  Better Skin Concealer + Corrector in Ivory, New York Color bronzer in Sunny to contour and add some sun to my face, Revlon Cream Blush in Coral Reef, and Benefit High Beam with a Make Up For Ever highlight over top (to really give a dewy look).  For the lips, I used Maybelline ColorBlur in Orange Ya Glad.

Unfortunately the Cuban pavilion is finished this year, but there’s tons of other great pavilions you can check out during week two.  Take a look at Folklorama‘s website for listings.
