Case of the corals…

title coral

A lot of spring and summer lacquer lines are coming out with a summer staple: coral.  I have a love-hate relationship with the colour.  It’s pretty and I love it in the bottle but then once I paint it on it just doesn’t woo me like other colours.  It’s pretty, but kinda plain.

With that being said, coral is so hot right now so I’ll put my personal qualms about the colour away and share some corals that are part of my collection.

OPI – My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours

This stunner came out in the OPI Euro Centrale collection for spring so you can probably still find it if you hit up your local salon or beauty supplier.  I actually love this colour on because it leans towards more of the orangey coral rather than the pink.  It’s very vibrant on the nails and is a spicy shade for the season.

Essie Sunday Funday

This pinky coral has a hint of shimmer to it and is incredibly vibrant in the bottle.  This one is part of Essie’s new summer collection so you will be able to find it easily in stores now.  This one is more toned down than OPI’s spring coral but the hint of shimmer adds a beachy vibe.

lancome coral

Lancome Vernis In Love 134B Peach Melodie

This nail polish came out during Lancome’s spring In Love collection (which also featured the gorgeous blue liner I’m obsessed with).  This colour greatly reminds me of OPI’s coral, however, not as strikingly orange.  This is a subdued coral perfect for those who may not be as adventurous in the nail department.

One thing I want to note about this polish is that I absolutely love the brush.  The brush on this varnish is similar to Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure as in the stem of the brush is flat and the brush itself is quite wide, therefore it paints the colour on quite nicely.  This polish is also very long lasting, I’ve been wearing this one for quite some time and there isn’t even a single chip.

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun

This peachy-coral shade is a bright polish that gets even brighter when layered over a white (it’s a little sheer on its own).  This one is very similar to Lancome’s coral, and to be honest, if I had to pick one, I would probably go with the Lancome version.  The one thing I do love about this polish is the finish it leaves on your nails, it looks like you are sporting a gel finish when painted on.

Coral is a perfect safe summer colour because it falls right in-between pink and orange. I personally love a hot or bright pink, and even more so, a vibrant orange (as in retina-searing).  If you want to play it safe though, coral is the way to go!
