Soft & gentle: Maybelline Color Whisper in Oh La Lilac

title

Riding on the wave of Revlon’s Lip Butters and L’Oreal Colour Riche Balms, Maybelline introduced their Color Whisper lip balm/lipstick hybrids earlier this year.

I have been a fan of the Revlon Lip Butters since they came out (along with millions of other people), and was curious about Maybelline’s version since I saw people on YouTube starting to chat about them a few months back.  Maybelline bills these as pure colour pigments suspended in a weightless gel with no heavy waxes or oils.  So it’s basically a sheer lipstick that works like a balm.

Since I have so many lip products already I was gonna pass because I didn’t feel like shelling out the $7.97 for one at Wal-Mart, but then Maybelline Canada’s Facebook page offered a dollar-off coupon for any Maybelline product, so of course, like the makeup hoarder that I am, I picked one up.

I swatched a few different colours in store and ended up getting number 90 Oh La Lilac, which looks like a purple in the tube but applies more like a lavender pink.  Some shades are more sheer than others but I feel like this one leaves me with the perfect amount of colour (I do have to apply this vigorously for the shade to show up though).

Alright, so thoughts… I love the colour and I love the way this feels on my lips, however, I personally don’t find that the product stays on for long at all. Compared to the Revlon Lip Butters it feels more thin and moisturizing, but I find the Revlon counterpart does last longer (it also seems thicker).  Also, my lips did feel a little parched once the product dried out; maybe it’s a way of telling me that I should keep applying it.

Swatch

Overall, if I had to choose between Maybelline’s version and Revlon’s I think I would still stick with Revlon’s Lip Butters, it’s a thicker product, gives you more colour, and not as drying after the fact.  Don’t get me wrong, I do like the Color Whisper I got, and I might pick up another colour, but I just wish these were a bit more long wearing; it’s a pain having to apply these so often.

Have you tried Maybelline’s Color Whispers?  What were your thoughts?
